They could have baked just five more minutes, as you can see in the middle, but other than that, they turned out phenomenal. We ate half the loaf for breakfast and I expect the other half will be gone by tomorrow. I'm angry because of the little semi-raw patch, but my gas oven is a tricky one. I made the needle test in at least a dozen places and still haven't spotted the one patch where it would have needed those five minutes. Ah, well, we're used to such things.

Take a look:

Today, it was a fairly slow day. I've slept a tad better during the night: a total of 2.5 hours in one go and only 3 times did I have to get up for breath and changing sweat-soaked nighties and stuff, but after three such nights I felt incredibly tired in the morning. So Mum and I decided to sleep in and got up around 9am. Yes, I know it an outrage - but it felt so good!

Still, as I said, I still felt like shit, so I decided not to go to choir practice with my main choir today, and texted M, our choir leader, to tell her that I won't be there. I had to go to the pharmacy and to the grocer's, though as we've run out both of cold medicine and basic foodstuffs like milk and bread. Mum wanted to go herself, which is a ridiculous idea and was snipped by me in the bud. Actually, having some fresh air after almost three days inside felt fairly good.

I did some translating - if I've counted correctly, only 15 pages left - and worked a bit on the felt clock face for the quiet book. But after falling asleep with the needle in the hand I gave it up and spent the rest of the afternoon on my bed, reading fanfic on my laptop.

I hope to finish the clock face tomorrow, as we're definitely not leaving the house. If I can keep my eyes open, that is.

Why is that an outrage? Why shouldn't you sleep in now and again? You are retired after all., and especially if you aren't feeling well. I'm glad you skipped choir practice.

Yeah, it seemed the sensible thing to do.

That looks really yummy. I admire anyone who can do a good yeast dough because obviously I'm too stupid for it. Or too impatient ... *lol*

The secret is to make the basic yeast dough, leave it somewhere warm and go watch something interesting on tv. By the time the program is finished, the dough will hang out of the bowl. ;)

I do hope you start to feel better soon. The bread looks yummy. I bet it's great, toasted and dripping in butter. I am always impressed by people who bake.

Actually, we just eat it with butter and strawberry jam. And baking isn't as complicated as people like to make it look. The trick is to start with really easy recipes and always have some idiot-proof ones in reserve.

God, so do I? I'm so tired from all those repeatedly interrupted nights that I can't even walk a straight line nowadays.
