We had an appointment with the chiropodist today, and I was never more grateful that she'd actually come to us, instead of us going to some pedicure salon. After a night, when my longest time of sleeping was about 75 minutes, interspersed with 20-25 minutes of coughing, blowing my nose, wandering around in the flat in the hope that my lungs would calm down in the vertical position, I could barely crawl out of bed in the morning. I'd have given my whole kingdom for a strong cup of coffee - only that I'm not allowed to have it before 11 am. *sigh*

Then, after the chiropodist was gone, we realized that we didn't have enough bread in the house, since I wasn't in any condition to do any shopping during the last three days. So I decided to bake some Rosinenstuten - which is a kind of raisin bread. Only that I used dried cranberries instead of raisins, just for fun.

The process took over three hours, as the dough has to be left to rise three times. So in-between I did some translating (by this speed I might finish the story till the next pico session... or not) and finally figured out how could I make the felt clock hands moveable with the help of eyelets and a button. I've been struggling with the problem for a long time; now that it is solved, I can launch into the Doll House quiet book project.

In the rest of the day I was coughing a lot, went through several packages of paper tissues and felt sorry for myself. But in the end the day didn't turn out completely useless, so I'm somewhat comforted.

THe bread sounds lovely - much more complicated than my 'emergency bread' which is either soda bread or plain scones.

And it is horrible when you can't lie down and breath at the same time - I have spent nights trying to sleep sitting up in a chair many times over the years.

It is horrible indeed... and sleep deprivation tends to get to you after a few days.
Bread picture tomorrow. I promise. :)

Why aren't you allowed to have coffee before 11?

Fasting diet. I don't eat anything and drink only water between 7 pm and 11 am.

That just sounds like seven kinds of pain.

Actually, I can live with it fairly easy. The only thing I still miss is my morning cup of coffee.

No, in truth it's like this every winter. The only difference is that now I'm no longer working, it took the cold two moths to catch me. Usually it started in early November and lasted, in several waves, until the end of March. So, retirement has actually bought me two months of relative health.

Thank you. Medically delivered hugs ought to help, right?

Really does sound like a terrible cold. Is getting a flu shot a thing there? Every year in the fall I et a flu shot. I'm not sure if it really does help but I don't generally get sick anymore. At least not so seriously.

It isn't the flu, just a cold. I have it every winter, usually due to badly heated or draughty rooms. I rarely catch any germs that go around, but the annual cold is the bane of my existence. Each year I stuffer through weeks like this.

Well, I can't really bear the heat, either, so for me it would be spring and early autumn... if we still had any of those seasons...
