Not that I'd have stayed in bed, mind you. After a night, during which I only once got to sleep a total of three hours and had to change my totally sweated-though nightgown four times (I kid you not!), I was almost glad to get up in the morning. We had our medium-sized cleaning frenzy today (meaning that the cleaning lady comes, but no windows are involved), which is a monthly event.

Afterwards, I decided that we needed something good, and I baked an experimental apple cake. Experimental in the manner that I just boosted up a very basic recipe, adding raisins (soaked in rum) and a bit of creme freche to the dough and some almodd stick and cinnamon-flavoured sugar to the apple topping. It turned out very fluffy and yummy. Mum was pleased. We had it for lunch, after a soup.

Here it is:

Other than that, I did a tiny bit of translating, solved some crossword puzzles, watched At Bertram's Hotel and generally felt very sorry for myself. *g*

Not really. It tends to gradually get worse towards the evening, and once I hit the pillow, things usually become truly bad. *sigh*

If I could only sleep during night, it would be a great improvement.

As for the cake, it's a simple Rührkuchen of 120 gr margarine, 120 gr sugar., 170 gr flour, some vanilla sugar, some milk and two eggs. And it's quick and easy to make. The peeling and slicing of the apples costs the most time.

A proper pudding, made from the sickbed no less, I am most jealous.

It is a hypothetical sickbed, and the apple tart is ridiculously easy to make. Actually, it can be made with all sorts of fruits. I can give you the recipe in its entirety if you want.

Oh it is horrible to be awake feeling ill at night - even worse than being ill during the day. I hope you have a better night tonight.

The apple cake looks very good.

It is yummy indeed; plus, baking has the advantage that the oven heats up our entire tiny flat very nicely. It's a shame that the effect doesn't last.

Actually, baking is a great comfort for me. Always has been. Plus, the oven gives degrees to the general temperature of the flat, which is very pleasant when one is having a cold.

Oh yeah, then I can see why you'd be baking while having a cold. For me, having a cold leads to nausea most of the time so anything food-related is really unpleasant.

The apple cake looks delicious. Sorry to hear you are still sick, nothing worse than coughing all night and feeling miserable. Wish you the best.

Thanks. There is little else to do than stay put and wait for the whole thing to be over.
