The most important thing: I managed to salvage most of my lost stuff, except a few unfinished chapters, the most recent beta files (a good thing that Larian uploads hers to my beta folder in the Edhellond files), some cherished personal feedback and lots of research stuff. Actually, I even found some of the research stuff on the 'Net again.

Also, I managed to write and post another chapter to my gritty Trek story, Mission to Daleth IV. We are still at the PG-13-rated stuff, so I can post a link openly. Here:

I had great fun with Cyrano Jones and an OC discussing Klingon internal politics, Harry Mudd's shadowy past and the true story beyond the Tribbles. Nothing else actually happens in this chapter.

I'm afraid, however, that this story will go the way of my Dracula/Spike story and the Equinox Logs. People usually don't like stories about OCs or marginal characters. And since I don't have gratutious smut to offer, these stories have no appeal for casual readers. Too bad, I'm actually very happy with the Equinox Logs and personally like this new story, too.

But it's a strange fact - as fellow authors have repeatedly reported - that one's personal favourites often doesn't meet the interest of the readers. It's okay, however - sometimes I actually do write a story for the sheer joy of it. Obviously, I'm not the review whore some people hold me for, after all.

I managed to write another bit of Kansas, too. Some Voyager people are grumbling about Chakotay's behaviour, and Janeway, Chak and Tuvok have a working breakfast together. During both events, the main topic is Chak's love life - or the lack tereof. Then it'll switch over to B5, where Rastenn gets in trouble and Neroon confronts Delenn.

Too bad I've lost more than a day because of my stupidity/lost files/etc. But it can't be helped now. And since we didn't win the jackpot on the lottery (again), tomorrow I've gotta go back to work. *sighs*

Well, at least I still have a job. Mum might lose hers in a couple of months. Which is okay on one side - she's 72, it's high time for her to rest a little - but she likes her work. And it'd also mean the loss of 1/3 of our incomes. Not a fatal loss, we'll manage, but we won't be able to save money anymore. At least not much.

Ah, well, other people have it a lot worse. The hardest part would be never to have the flet for me alone. I love my Mum, but I like to have my peace for a couple of hours every day. When she's at home, it's... different.

All right, time to get offline, soon. A new week of facing the savages is before me.

Glad you managed to recover some of your files. That must have been horrible. (Though it would be a good way of eliminating unwanted plotcritters!)

I sympathize with your need for quiet time alone. I think it's something everyone should have as a basic human right - especially if they do creative work (and especially especially if the other people like to have the TV or the radio on!).

There's no such thing as unwanted plotcritters. :))
There's only too little time to write them all. :(

As for time alone - I know what you mean. Mum always has the TV on when she's at home. But that's not the worst thing. When she's home, it's her rhythm, her schedule that has to be respected. A silly example: I don't eat breakfast when I'm alone. I get up around 8 in the morning in holidays, do some work, eat something around 11 or 12, work some more, then eat with Mum when she comes home around 18.00.

When she's home, there always has to be breakfast around 9, we get up half an hour before, it lasts until 9.30 at the very least, and half my morning is ruined. But when I say a thing, she's hurt...

Hey Sweetie!
