It is so bizarre to get used to a brand new year! My day was very much the same as many other days from the previous year - those I spent at home. I wrote a little bit (translation still going sluggishly, but at least it is going right now), worked a great deal on my Russian dolls (all parts of the second batch, that is ten dolls, are cut out), watched some telly, solved some crossword puzzles, took Mum to church...

Well, with the exception of the TV programme, that is. All the usual stuff I watch on workdays was omitted, being replaced with deadly boring films in the umpteenth re-run, so not much that's watchable is there on holidays. Thank God for the Vienna Philharmonics' New Year Concert that was shown live on several channels. Listening to beautiful classical music makes cutting out identical doll parts of cardboard so much more bearable!

Other than that, I've finished re-reading The Moving Finger by Agatha Christie. Re-watching the TV-series made me want to read the books again, too, so that's a win. Although, I must admit, that I enjoyed the old Hungarian translations even more than the original. Perhaps because I first read them as a young girl. Or perhaps my English is still not good enough to properly appreciate Christie's writing style.

Oh, and I woke up to a wonderful surprise! Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] lindahoyland, for the lovely e-card!

This is the first year in a long time we didn't watch the concert in Vienna during lunch.
There were Beethoven concerts on 3SAT all day long and my father preferred to watch that.

I didn't know that. Of course, I forget to check 3Sat regularly because it's on a different page of NurTV than Sat1 and RTL2, which is the ones I watch most. Well... listen to. I usually do something else while the telly is running. It mostly serves to keep my German vocabulary alive.

But again, I'm not that fond of Beethoven anyway, so I was better off with the Vienna concert. The ballet parts were especially amazing.

You are most welcome.
I've always loved Agatha Christie. Her birthday is the same as mine!

I do love her, to, very much so! I just find it difficult to read her in original. Which is odd, as I didn't have any problems with reading Tolkien in English...

It is exactly the same here, I was so pleased to see when I watched the news this morning the schedule seems to be returning to normal!

So was I. Even though the normal routine isn't very high-level entertainment, either. But I can wonderfully solve crossword puzzles in German while German telly is running in the background, playing some semi-documentary stuff about the working of the police or firefighters or emergency rooms. *g*

When I was around 12 I read the works of Agatha Christie back and forth several times. I was such a bookworm and my family really encouraged it.
