I'll do that meme everyone seems to be doing right now a little later. At the moment, I just want to reflect on the last day of this year. It was a fairly quiet one, just the way I like it. I started the day with finishing the first full batch of the Russian paper dolls I'm working on as a gift for my main choir, for the theme ball on February 1. So far, I've made 16 of them (save the two that went to my dear friend [livejournal.com profile] lindahoyland), 20 to 23 more to go.

This is what the outer layers look like:

For the middle layer, I rearranged the dolls, so that just the patterned parts would be visible:

To show the inner layer, with the tiny little dollies, I rearranged them again:

When the dolls were done, we had lunch, and then I actually managed to translate a page or so for the ongoing project from the last [livejournal.com profile] picowrimo session. By then, natural light was mostly gone, so I decided to re-watch an old Miss Marple DVD, from the series with Joan Hickson (my absolute favourite). Those episodes are fairly long, in two, sometimes three parts, but since there's been nothing watchable on the telly lately, I'm in the process to re-watch them all. Today, it was The Moving finger.

Then we had dinner - the party food that we'd be eating much later, if I wouldn't make that fasting diet. It's bad enough that I'd break my fasting for a glass of champagne at midnight, I didn't want to have food as well that late.

Our party food: mini sausage rolls and little puff pasties, the latter filled with a ham and a tuna filling, respectively. The cookies are so-called financiers; an excellent way to use up leftover egg whites.

I hope you all have a grand old time at New Year's Eve, whether you're going to a party or planning to spend it quietly at home. *raises imaginary champagne flute*

Thank you, my friend! A very happy New Year to you, too. Perhaps 2020 will be the year in which you finally get your craft room sorted. *g*

That would be good!

Right now I'd settle for having heat, What a way to end one year and start the next!

Oh, Jesus, is your heating system malfunctioning or have you run out of fuel?

The stupid fire started filling the house with fumes so I had to open all doors and windows to clear the air, and let the fire go out. I've been having chimney problems for years, so now I have to get it swept again before I can try re-lighting the fire. It was only done less than three months ago. Unfortunately for me, the sweep can't come until tomorrow so I've had no heat since Monday afternoon. My feet are freezing but the rest of me is okay. Great start to the year =/

Thank you, I wish you the same. Don't feel like a slug, it's an obsession on my part anyway. *g*
