Today was one of those rare days when I didn't have to go anywhere and no-one came to us, either - well, save the postman who's brought Mum's pension. But that doesn't matter, does it?

So I started the day with finishing the decorative box for the self-made Memory game that I started yesterday. Here it is, from two different angles:

As you can see, I managed to mess up the measures again, so the lid doesn't fit exactly, but at this point I'm beyond caring, really.

Then I started with the baking. I've tried out a new recipe again - I think I'll keep this one, though. It's a hazelnut dough, with nougat filling and chocolate icing. For the Germans among us, it's decorated with Mandelkrokant.

They're delicious and not too complicated to make, either, so I added them to the "Cookies I'm gonna make again" list. Yum! They are also a bit time-consuming to make, so they ate a good part of my day, even though I was cooking lunch simultaneously. So I only had the time and the energy to work a bit on the Santa's socks, but so far just two and a half of the second batch are done. Photos later, I promise.

Well, not that complicated. It's just so that there are quite a few steps, including the chilling of the dough, that make the process time-consuming. Basically, it's a Mürbeteig, with part of the flour replaced with ground hazelnuts. The filling is nougat, mixed with a bit of chocolate, and then chocolate icing. But you have to wait after each step for the cookies to cool and/or dry, that's why it takes long.

They are. Which is why we keep them in a tin box on the balcony. They are supposed to last until Christmas, after all.

The box for the matching game looks great! And I love the look (as well as the description) of those cookies. The half-dipped chocolate icing is quite festive!
