First and foremost: a blessed pre-Christmas time to everyone!

We've broken out the Adventskranz and the Holzkrippe and lit the first candle with Mum today. I start feeling festive and nostalgic.

But actually, Advent started for us with the concert of the Oldies at local the Lutheran church. Another church from Békéscsaba, one of the larger country towns, was invited, and both choirs had a relatively short program of their own as well as two shared numbers. At the end we sang several traditional Christmas carols, together with the congregation, and had a cake and cookie orgy with the other choir in one of the adjoining rooms.

Mum came with me and enjoyed the concert very much. She was a bit frustrated, as she would have liked to try all the baked goodies but was afraid her weak stomach wouldn't agree with it, so she restricted herself to one sort. We then left fairly early after the concert, so that she wouldn't have to suffer in silence and I wouldn't over-indulge myself. *g*

We did have some of yesterday's disastrous shortbread cookies after coming home, though, so she could have some cookie fun, too.

I don't know if we'll have any records of the concert available - I hope so, since the local TV channel was there, but I don't know how public they'll be made online. If I can, I'll put up links later.

Happy advent! My mum went to an advents festivity yesterday. She actually enjoyed herself, a rare occurrence now. I think it was the choir that made the difference for her. It’s wonderful to think of all the joy you’re bringing with your singing.

It gives us great joy, too. This is the first Advent for a long time that I started with real joy and expectation.

That it was. Seeing the joy and eagerness of everyone just lifted us all from what you Germans call the Alltagstrott - Mum was very impressed by the Oldies and their openness for everything and everyone. It isn't so that they wouldn't have their idiosyncrasies, of course they have, but despite all that they manage to band together and do something that would make them and the audience joy, and I think that's no small feat for a bunch of people around 70 or more. Very few in the choir are as "young" as I am.

It was lovely. I hope to be able to show you folks some of it. The Oldies are resourceful, so maybe someone will put up a few moments to the Net.

We lit the Advent wreath candles every night before supper. Each week had its own prayer. We turned the lights out in the kitchen and said our prayer by the light of the Advent wreath.
Nice memories.

The concert sounds great. What's not to love about a carol-filled concert? And yay for cookies and cake!
It's the season for singing and enjoying lots of holiday goodies! Hard not to overdo it on the sweets, though:)

I know what you mean. There was one completely insane year when I baked 30 different kinds of cookies, just because there were so many exciting recipes I wanted to try. I baked half or quarter portions, and everyone got a selection of cookies as a Christmas present that year, so nothing got wasted, but I try to restrain myself each year ever since.
