Today we had choir practice with the Silver Choir of Újbuda (that's the official name of our senior choir). I got asked to sing in the smaller group that will perform the Ave Maria by Mülled, assuming I manage to learn it in time. Yay! Three of the ladies had birthdays and plyed the rest of the choir with home-made treats after practice. Yum! I had to pocket my two biscuits because it wasn't 11 o'clock yet, but at least I could share them with Mum when I got home.

Mum didn't have a good day. She woke up with her joints hurting like whoa (cold weather is coming up), and at one point I even caught her crying, apparently because she was in a bad mood. Well, she does get these moods sometimes, but today was the first time that I saw her cry. She's gotten over it, more or less, after cleaning half the flat, but still isn't at her peak. Hopefully, tomorrow will be better.

After choir practice, I went to the discount craft shop to buy some glue one can use on styrofoam. The glue I prefer would dissolve the thing, unfortunately, so I had to hunt down something else. The discount craft shop is only two bus stops away, but you have to walk a loooong way in an abandoned industrial area to get there. So I had some exercise out of it, too. I ended up buying not only the glue but also two motif punchers: one producing a flying angel and one producing a Christmas bell.

Because you not only need craft supplies in ungodly amounts but crafting tools as well!

I wanted to try out this method to make Christmas cards, using paper napkins:

So far I made two cards (pictures coming up later), but mine are different. I had some window cards stored away and decided to use them for this. I'm pleased with the results, so I'll stick with the design. Which, of course, means that I'll have to make the basic cards first, as I only had three of them. But that isn't too difficult, thank God.

As a pleasant closure of the day, one of my ex-colleagues called me not so long ago. We talked on the phone almost 50 minutes, and she promised to come over to visit sometime during the week, since it's autumn break at school. I'm really looking forward to it.

I understand your mum, hurting joints are not nice at all. My knees hurt very much until I went to see the family doctor to receive injections. Cold weather is not nice to any of us.

No, that's true, it isn't. I hope your knees will get better.

What have you been doing all the time in-between? It's been way too long since I last heard from you.

I help a bit at a community center holding study groups, I go to a group every Wednesday where we discuss women in history (sometimes it is hard to find details about them) and then I go to practice with my choir. We have sung twice this semester, next time we sing is the First sunday of Advent which is when the most people come to sing and listen. Apart from that I look for work.

My knees have improved but that will only last for about three months, then they will hurt again. They only hurt during the colder part of the year, when spring comes they feel better.

The joint pains come and go... at least the intensity does. She's always in some kind of pain, but when the weather is about the change, her knee and the shoulder that got dislocated when she was mugged a decade or so ago, get really bad.

Oh, I hope your mum’s joints are going to be good this winter. That sounds so painful. My mum doesn’t like winter either, her arthritis is so painful.
I loathe summer, that’s when my health problems flare up. We’re heading into summer now... I don’t have the words to express how much I dread it. I’m actually crying at the thought of summer again. Oh well, this too shall pass. Eventually.
Congrats on your choir process. It sounds great.
Those cards sound good. I might poke around my supplies. I used to have some exquisite printed Japanese rice paper that would be perfect. I can’t do much any more, but might be able to manage that. Aha, now I have to remember where I put the craft supplies! Wish me luck!

Good luck! I expect pictures, though, when you are done. ;)

I hear you about summer. I don't have particular health problems at that time, I just hate the heat. And my skin doesn't like the harsh sunlight. It makes my face look like the surface of the Moon. Gah.

I'm sorry about your Mom. Today mine asked me for a hug which is really way out of character. She's depressed and the chemo is wrecking her. It's hard watching our loved ones grow old and suffer.

That is very true. And I've gone through the whole thing with my Grandma already. I hope it was just a short phase. Mum is in a better mood today, thank God.

Ah, well, there are worse addictions. At least mine don't hurt anyone - save my purse. *g*

Simple but pretty and a great idea if you need to make lots of invitations. I would probably use the method on a topper.

I can highly recommend it. It's really as easy as it looks. Originally, I planned to do the thing with the cling film and the ironing tool, but when searching for the best method I found this and jumped at it. Five cards are already done, a dozen or so more on their way - I don't want to make much more, just a few to give away.
