New things

My old/new curtain (the one that lay in the wardrobe for 40+ years) is finally in place. The delightful pattern of various green circles and dots does a lot to take away the concrete prison cell charm my bedroom now has, thanks to the misbegotten redecorating in summer. Now if my wall hanging returns home, too (it has to be repaired, as it's about 100 years old, and the textile was beginning to dissolve into individual fibres) and my posters get back in place, I might be marginally happier with my room.

Also, the new cleaning lady came today for the first time. She's nice and thorough and reliable, but she is new, so I had to be with her by every step, to explain her which doors aren't supposed to be closed, which windows one has to open very, very carefully, in which order everything has to be done so that she won't accidentally barricade herself into a corner where she won't be able to get out without help... it was an exhausting 3 hours.

Choir practice has started today, too. Apparently, our spring ball will have a Russian theme, so we were practicing Russian folk songs. In original. It was very funny: we old hags could more or less read the lyrics, even if we didn't really understand most of it (last time I had anything to do with the language was back in 1978 or so), while the younger ones were completely lost. So we had to put on YouTube and the Red Army Choir, so that they got at least a vague idea how Kalinka and the rest of the songs are supposed to sound. It was hilarious.

All in all, it was a tiring day, though (especially as I had to do the shopping in the morning as well), so I postponed my experimental baking for tomorrow.

It sounds like a full day from start to finish, but your room is back to rights and you will soon not have to train the cleaner. Rock on!

Makes me wonder what your flat looks like if you can get trapped there. 😉

Well, it is a small flat in a concrete building, where we moved in with all the old furniture originally meant for a much, much larger place.

I want to see a pic of the old-new curtains! I'm intrigued by vintage design. Post a pic!

Will do tomorrow, if there's enough light to take one.

I'll bet those Russian folk songs are so fun to sing.

I love Russian folk songs. The alphabet is a nightmare though.

I guess it depends on when you start with it. We started having Russian lessons at the age of ten, and I rather enjoyed the alphabet. It is so beautiful. The grammar, OTOH, now that is a nightmare.

Oh my trapping yourself during cleaning sounds worrisome lol Mom's place is pretty crowded with furniture too but not quite that badly, and I already hate cleaning there cuz you have to be careful not to knock anything over.

Hope you'll soon have your room all put in order again. It looks like you're getting there, albeit slowly.

I was exaggerating a bit about the getting trapped thing. *g*
Yeah, the room does look better now. Unfortunately, there is no way to hide the ugly wallpaper - or the crappy painting job - in its entirety.
I've just posted a pic of the old/new curtain, if you're interested.

Environment does make a difference. So nice when you get your room like you want it, then you can feel at peace ;0)

Well, closer to how I'd like it. The horrible wallpaper is gonna stay with me for the rest of my natural life, I'm afraid.
