Mum prefers to go to early Mass as long as it is so very hot, so we got up at 6 o'clock - two hours earlier than we usually do.

I decided to put the time we won that way to good use, so I cut out some more quiet book base pages while she got ready. Then I went to Lidl and another grocery shop while she was in church, fetched her after Mass and typed up a couple of pages for Kansas 2 that I wrote earlier this week.

After that I printed out a few quiet book templates, which took some time because I needed to adjust the size of the motifs several times. Mum was cooking an apple and plum soup in this time, because it is usually eaten cold, so it needed time to cool down properly, even after she'd put the pot into cold water. I also used the time to wash my hair which looked terribly from all that sweating.

After lunch I had about an hour to rest before going back to school, where the official opening of the new school year was taking place. I didn't stay to the actual ceremony, which is always crowded and uncomfortable, being held in the school yard that is surrounded by concrete on three sides out of four, but it was good to meet the girls again and chat a bit.

Coming home, I watched Das Große Backen, which is the German version of the Great British Bake-off, and while doing that, I worked a bit on the next batch of the cork and felt ornaments. There won't be a third batch, but I wanted to give the square ones a try. Unfortunately, I keep getting new ideas how to make them even prettier, so the process is a rather time-consuming one.

So, that was my Sunday. I think I deserve to read some fanfic and to play solitaire games online. *g*

No writing today. There'll be writing tomorrow, I swear. I've printed out some technobabble from old TNG eps and hope to make at least some headway with the still untitled new story.

True, but the other two Masses are at 10 o'clock and at 6 pm, both times too hot for Mum to go out, unless he absolutely has to.

Apple and plum soup? Is that anything like applesauce?

Not really. You simply dice the fruits (the apples should be peeled first), then boil them in water, seasoned with a pinch of salt, sugar and lemon juice - the latter according to your personal taste. When the fruits are soft, you blend an egg yolk with some sour cream and a couple spoonfuls from the soup, strain it through a sieve and put it back into the still boiling soup. Wait until it starts boiling again (the sour cream tends to stop the boiling), take from the oven immediately and let it cool. It tastes best on the next day, when it has been in the fridge for a couple of hours.

You can make the same soup of cherries, fresh ones or canned ones as well. It is really quick and easy, and great on hot days.

* Forgot to add: you don't need to dice the cherries, though, it's enough to remove the stones from them.

Do you put the egg yolk sour cream mixture through a sieve? Or the fruit? It sounds yummy and I'd really like to try it.

The egg and cream mixture, or else it would form lumps. The fruit is supposed to remain in dicséretet - just in soft ones, after the cooking.

I'm sorry... 'dicséretet'? What do you mean?

Sorry, I meant to write dices. Frigging autocorrect keeps replacing English words with Hungarian ones, and I don't always catch it in action. Dicséret means praise in Hungarian, BTW.

Ooooh! One day I hope to have many plums and apples and I'll give it a go. (Alas, this day may be a long time coming.)

If you have fresh plums, the soup will develop a wonderfully pink colour. We call it underwear pink. *g*

Dried plums may give a soup made predominantly from apples a bit more flavour, but the colour they cause is less than appetizing: an ugly brown hue that I refuse to compare with any known substances...

One of Mum's friends makes it from apples and pears, seasoned with cinnamon and cloves but without the egg yolk/sour cream mixture. I prefer our version.
