Yummy times!

Strawberry season has just begun, so the strawberries imported from Spain or other such places are on sale, now that Hungarian products are available, too. As a rule, I prefer fruit that's been grown here, but these were so cheap I just couldn't resist. The taste is rather watery, of course, nothing like the local ones that are harvested when properly ripe, but as decoration for a vanilla cream filled sponge cake they are good enough.

They look very nice indeed on a cake! And yeah, nothing like ones harvested fully ripe but for the start of the season the imported ones are nice enough. At least they aren't so expensive, definitely the choice for cake and such.

Yeah, the ripe ones are for eating. It would be a travesty to put them onto/into a cake, right? *g*

Yeah I only did that for Easter but otherwise they're far too expensive still for cake. But damn that talk of strawberry cake makes me want to make some now.

No, you just make a sheet sponge and then fill it with strawberries and whipped cream. Or at least, that's the theory... fingers crossed.

There is a town about an hour away from us that calls itself, "the Strawberry Capital of the World". I imagine a lot of places that have the climate for the fruit claim the title. Strawberries are quite cheap here in season, but are not my favorite. Your cake does look pretty though :0)
