Mum's friend decided not to come, after all, because it was raining. Not very much, but enough for an old lady to be bothered by the need of carrying an umbrella and getting on the tram with it and stuff. So she cancelled her visit at 9 am. Mum was a bit disappointed, but understanding. Not everyone has a live-in daughter who escorts them everywhere they need to go. So, we'll be eating well for at least two days. She planned a lovely lunch (which is the main meal over here) and worked hard on it. Usually, we don't bother so much with elaborate cooking.

I went to the travel agency in the morning - only to learn that they no longer book rooms for individual persons. So I'll have to try my luck via internet, which terrifies me every time. Drat. Service isn't what it used to be eve a few years ago.

I also bought another box of cereals for the baby album cover, and some more pale pink carton, as I realized that the one I bought (and wasted) yesterday was too light-weight for my purposes anyway. Today's acquirement has the opposite problem: it broke a bit when I bent it, but at least the cover is done now, with most of the embellishments finished. The really hard part will be sewing in the dratted pages - I'm already living in terror of it. I won't be doing this for the first time, but it's the first time journal ended up so thick and so richly decorated, and I'm afraid the paper will tear where I sew it in. Gah!

Other than that, not much happened. Posted the new chapter of Kansas 2 to AO3, fell asleep in front of the telly as usual... It's still raining, but the balcony seems to resist for the time being - let's hope it lasts. *fingers crossed*

Ah damn, too bad about the lunch date not working out, it would have been nice for your mom to get to spend time with her friend, especially after all that work on the lunch. But treating yourself to it sounds like a good plan, too.

Good luck with the reservations and baby album!

No luck with the reservations so far, I'm afraid. I managed to do it in the recent years just fine, but I don't seem to be able to get on the website of the hotel I had in mind, and I don't want to go through any of the agencies as that makes the whole thing more expensive.

Huh? Why are they not booking rooms for individual persons anymore? I have to admit I haven't really been to a travel agency for a long time so I don't know if they'd still do it here. Last time I asked for a room in London was some years ago ... and I ended up booking via the internet in the end.

I've successfully booked rooms via internet for St. Pölten (repeatedly) and Krems a. D., but those were private establishments. You could simply go to their website, fill out the booking formular and it was done. But these hotels I tried for Vienna are parts of big hotel chains (Ibis, for starters), and I always got to some central page and was afraid that I'd book something I didn't actually want.

I'm sorry that your mum's friend didn't come but at least you didn't have to worry about the cheesecake! That's very odd about your travel agent. I would call around a bit. I have some sewing to do today as well and am not excited about it. :P

Sewing paper is particularly nerve-wrecking. Especially as this is rather thin paper, the kind you'd use in a printer and not really suited for such work. But it was a gift - I got 100 leaves in 5 or so different colours and I wanted to use them practically. Ah, well, it's done now.

The travel agency has apparently stopped booking for people. Only one of their many offices does now, and I'm just not willing to cross half the city to get there. Mum and I abandoned the idea of going to Vienna for 3 days, as one of those I'd have spent with a bunch of eighth-grade students, showing them the sights, so she'd have been on her own and I'd have been worried sick about her. She know Vienna as well as I do, if not better, but with her rheumatic knee I'm always afraid she might take a fall on her own, and at her age that would be dangerous.

The cheesecake is half gone already, so it wasn't too bad, after all. It was a small one, with only 20 cm across, so I foresee its end in another day or two. Even if it wasn't perfect.

I can appreciate that. I've worked with some stuff like that in my time. it's always nerve wracking.

How odd. There's not another travel agency in town? I can certainly understand your reluctance to have your mum go on her own. That is what worries me when Jeff travels.

I suspected you would find something to do with that cheesecake. :D

Sorry the luncheon had to be postponed. Cheesecake - Yum - so hard to resist! I hope you guys can find a nice place to stay in Vienna without too much problem, it is always so nice to get away for a holiday. Congrats on the new chapter of Kansas 2, you are moving along nicely on that one, a long way yet to go, I know, but progressing.
