Well, not very much. Just a little bit and seriously clouded skies all day. Mum and I had to go to a funeral today (the father of a colleague died a few weeks ago), but it was an urn funeral, so we remained indoors the whole time. We then visited the grave of my grandparents; they lie in the same urn cemetery, but not in the crypt. Mum and I wanted them to be outside, in the wall surrounding the church. It's much nicer there.

After the funeral we went to Stühmer's Café, because it had been fairly chilly in the crypt, and we decided we deserved some hot chocolate: she with cardamom, I with ginger. It was fantastic, as always. It was almost 5 p.m. when we finally got home, and she's deadly tired now, the poor dear.

But at least I got some serious writing done in the morning, so I call the day a success.

That's definitely a success! Also good that you were able to combine the funeral with something pleasant.

We needed it! The deceased had been the same age as Mum, and I couldn't help thinking during the ceremony that one day it would me me, standing where M. stood today. It was a sobering thought...

Oh damn, yeah, I feel you on that. That makes it way harder. You really needed the coffee shop time after that :(

Congrats on getting some writing done!

I always find funerals difficult enough to endure, but I think it's nice when people can get together and comfort themselves with hot chocolate, etc. Wakes are really great. I've had the occasion to attend a few, for family, and it's nice to see people you haven't seen for years and reminisce about the person who has passed on. Sometimes it's the only time you ever have the chance to do it.

That is true; although my family isn't really the kind you'd like to get together with on such occasions. Which is the reason why grandma didn't have a wake... not a regular one anyway. We did get together with the two neighbourhood ladies, though, who knew her better than any relatives ever had save for Mum and me, and that was really nice.

Funerals are not fun, but hot chocolate sounds like a good way to celebrate a life.

So sorry about your friend's father, may he rest in peace. Stühmer's Café seems a cozy place and hot chocolate on a cold day can be quite comforting.

It is a very nice café indeed. Mum and I go there at irregular intervals - whenever we feel the need to pamper ourselves. ;)
