Mum and I went to the hairdresser's in the morning. Tomorrow is the annual ball at school, which we use to raise some money for the school itself since the state fails to provide it with a lot of necessary stuff. Anyway, it's a big event during which the colleagues work themselves ragged during Saturday night and the parents and other paying guests usually have a grand old time. It usually last from 6pm to 1am.

This is the first year I don't have to actually work, fortunately. The choir has a gig: we sing a Japanese folk song, the humming chorus from Madame Butterfly by Puccinin and a short collection of Hungarian folk songs for 3 voices. Some of us contraltos have to sing the tenor voice, which has rather uncomfortable depths for us, but we'll manage. An actual opera singer is coming to sing the aria of Cho Cho-san, and a Japanese dancer will make an appearance - I'm really looking forward to both.

I went in today for the last choir practice and our art teachers and a lot of other colleagues were already busy decorating the gym, the foyer and other rooms where the ball will take place. I hope there will be photos later that I can link here because it looks great. It does have a Japanese flair of course, it being the theme of the ball, but not overdone. But again, our two art teachers have excellent tastes.

Anyway, Mum's been made very pretty, and she's looking forward to the experience. My colleagues generally like her a lot, and she enjoys being there, watching the programme and have lots of people talking to her. The best part is that - for the first time - we can actually leave whenever we want, as I no longer have any obligations there, save for singing in the choir. Let's hope that everything will go well; she needs the distraction as one of her old colleagues has just died. They weren't very close, but they worked together for a long time, and the lady was about her own age; not many of those are still around.

Oh, and my paper dolls were a raging success!
