Once upon a time, that is some 30+ years ago, I met a Japanese lady in Germany. For some reasons he liked me and gave me a paper doll bookmark as a farewell gift. I've kept it because I found it pretty, but never really used for anything.

Now that we're having our charity ball on February 2 - the one where we're going to sing a Japanese folk song and the humming chorus from Puccini's Madame Butterfly - I got the idea to make similar dolls for the choir members, as the theme of the ball is Japan. So I vivisected the poor doll that has lost all of its colours in the decades in-between, to see how it was folded, and gave the project a try.

Here are the first 8 dolls - only 18 more to make. The idea was that they ought to look identical, or at least very similar... well, as you can see that isn't the case. I couldn't make two identical items if my life depended on it. But they're pretty enough, I think.
