So, I watched Independence Day 2 last night. TBH, I wasn't terribly impressed. But that's always the thing with sequels, isn't it? You're already familiar with the situation, you've already seen the monsters, so the tension is out of the whole thing and - unless you like the main characters very much - there's little reason to watch it at all.

I liked the original part well enough. Sure, it was more CGI than anything else, the plot was older than Moses and the solution completely unbelievable, but at least it was fun and didn't take itself too seriously. I don't even like Will Smith that much, but I laughed myself to tears when he slugged the carcass of the alien across the desert. The sequel was simply boring - a pale copy of the original, without a funny central character and the totally unoriginal addition of an alien Queen. Why do all aliens have a hive mind and a Queen that supposedly orchestrates their actions from the background? And they drilled so deep into the earth that nearly reached the planet core but caused neither volcano outbreaks nor earthquakes? Oh, please. I'd love to see a sci-fi flick that actually has at least a morsel of science in it!

This year I got two lovely Christmas gifts from my friends: the book The Fall of Gondolin from [livejournal.com profile] the_wild_iris and paid LJ time from my dear [livejournal.com profile] mirasaui. Thank you, my lovelies, and I'm really ashamed that I didn't send out any Christmas gifts, not even cards. My only excuse is that I had a really, really hectic time this year, what with retiring and the fair and all that. I think I'll have to atone myself with Easter cards and gifts, that's a much calmer time for me. ;))

On domestic matters, I finally brought up the energy to clean out one of the very small cabinets - a bedside table, actually, with a mere two shelves. I sorted the old magazines and story notes and whatnot, and the rubbish filled an entire bin and took me half the day. I'm scared of the thought how much work it would be to do the same to the book cabinet that fills two whole walls, and yet it has to be done eventually. *sigh*

Other than that, we're both doing a bit better. I hope this frigging cold has finally run its circles and will go away.

You will get to the book cabinet. Perhaps you should look at it as a shelf at a time instead of the whole thing. It's easier to be less overwhelmed that way.

That is certainly true; however, the problem is that I need to rearrange the whole lower half, in order to put away the things I brought home from school. To do so, I'll have to get rid some older stuff that I've been dragging with me from one year to another.

First, though, we'll have to rearrange the wardrobe. We still haven't got around to switch summer clothes for winter clothes. Pathetic, isn't it?

Not really. I suspect you'll get around to it when you are feeling better. You haven't been retired a month yet.

You have all the time to clean out stuff ... so no worries!

I know... it's just a frightening prospect in itself. ;D

Little bits at a time for the bookshelves. You can do it!

Yeah, I know. I just don't like the idea of it. You can never stuff the things back the same way. Making more storage space is even more hopeless. You throw away half of your belongings and the rest still won't fit in.

True. It's like it all multiplies.
