... and I'm back, as promised, with the report and the (very few) pics.

We had a great day in Vienna, with amazing, warm and dry weather, lots of sunshine and lots of fun. We strolled along our favourite streets, did lots and lots of window shopping, dropped into the various shops and bought some fun things like Christmas-themed toilet paper, paper tissues and serviettes, a few bits of chocolate and stuff. I also found quite a few DVDs from Classic Who I've been looking for, so there was some serious money spent, too.

We had breakfast at Anker's and coffee at one of Vienna's long established coffee houses, the Café Ritter (which means the Knight's Café):

The picture is from the Wikipedia entry as I can't make such a good take of the building, but below the proof that we really were in there: Mum within the café:

You can find more photos and recommendations here. I only took the one photo all day and didn't want to use other people's pictures.

So, as I said, we had a grand old time, thanks for the good thoughts.

Glad to hear you had a nice day and the weather was accommodating as well.

We were really lucky with the weather.

Fantastic day, I am agog at the Xmas bogroll! Is it decorated with holly leaves or poor Father Christmases face?

Your mum is adorable.

She is, isn't she? She does have her personality quirks, but at almost 87 she's allowed to.

What Xmas bogroll do you mean? *is confused*

Edit: Ah, never mind, you mean the toilet paper? It has grinning Santas with their pants dropped - thankfully, the rear view. ;)

Arf, yes toilet paper, but bog roll is so much more evocative. If it had featured a big smiley face Santa or a cute robin or the baby Jesus it would have become all sorts of disturbing.

Well, two years ago we got a roll with reindeer on it - red reindeer. And another one with Christmas baubles in different colours. Of course, they're still sitting on the shelf; they are too funny to use as intended. Eventually I'll use them for decoupage work, I think. We just couldn't resist buying them.

Wait, I actually found a link. This is what it looks like:

How fun! I'm glad the day was good for you! Your mum is a sweetie - I love that little imp of a smile.

Oh, she is an imp all right! And rather adventurous for her age.

And I suspect there's a little of that in her daughter, too. :D

In spirit definitely. I wish I were fit enough to follow my adventurous instincts more.

That's the sad part about getting older. We have the time and money later in life, if not the health... sigh.

Sounds like a really nice trip - and that is a nice picture you took of your Mum.

Unlike me, Mum is very photogenic - it is very easy to make good pictures of her. I, OTOH, look three times as fat as I really are on every dratted photo. *sigh*

Vienna is fantastic. Mum and I go there at least once a year; more often if we can. It's a mere three-hour train ride from Budapest, so it's easily doable in one day. The only thing that keeps us from going even more often is the ticket price.

Oooh, what a lovely picture of your Mom, hope she is doing well! So glad you were able to go on your day trip and that you both had lots of fun and enjoyment. Wish we had a Viennese coffee shop ... just around the corner, one with the "old world charm" that is so lacking here, smiles. The only thing that keeps ME from going there is also the ticket price, teehee.

Mum is a cutie, isn't she? She's doing az well az someone of nearly 87 years with aching joints can do. I hope we'll be given quite a few years to spend together in relatíve health after my retirement.
