... and I had to realize that retirement countdown and virtual birthday party don't mix well. The daily version didn't work out the first time, either, and in the years in-between the people who pushed the numbers forward and organized more virtual guests have left LJ - or me as a friend.

I must admit being a tad disappointed, but it was not entirely unexpected. So, since the retirement countdown is more important, I decided to cancel the party at this point and continue counting down the rest of my working days instead, in the hope that the lovely people who stayed with me since the beginning will continue doing so.

Sorry I didn't take part as much as I wanted but I was kind of preoccupied.

Oh, no worries. As you could see if you clicked on the links, the previous parties had a very different dynamic, with lots of people participating; people who haven't been around for a long time since then. You just can't do the same with 5 people as you did with 25-30. Even if quite a few of those were casual visitors, due to altariel advertising the party in her own journal.

I have met some due to a couple of friendzies as well. Their interest lasted about a month, with one or two exceptions. I just don't seem to have luck with LJ friends. Or RL friends, either.
