We had our regular choir rehearsal today, preparing for the Christmas concert already. The new pieces are beautiful but demanding: the Halleluja chorus from Händel's Messias and Laudate Dominum from Mozart. We have our work cut out for us with those. We'll sing some old favourites we haven't had on the programme for a few years; I'm particularly looking forward to the Gregorian hymn Puer natus in Bethlehem from the tradition of Solesmnes, even though it is unlikely that I'll get the chance to sing the contralto solo again.

The needle books are getting along well enough, but there's a lot of detail work still. At least the covers are almost completely done; I'm sewing in the side parts at the moment.

Other than that not much is happening, which is good. I like my peace and quiet. I'm saving my strength for the weekend when I intend to try my hand on a red velvet cake for the first time ever.

Oh, and BTW, I really, really hate the new look of Outlook.

Good luck with the red velvet cake! Will there be pics? I hope so.

I've never made a red velvet cake - somehow I don't like to use food colouring.

Neider do I as a rule. But this one looks so gorgeous I just have to give it a try.

Those sound like some great songs.
Do you just sing for Christmas?

No, we usually have two main concerts and another two smaller events a year - and, of course, we go and sing at the weddings of every colleague or their children if they ask.

Is there a new look to Outlook? I hadn't noticed. I suspect that says a lot right there.

The graphics changed a bit, which is annoying because I was used to the old ones; the arrangement of the folders is slightly different, and the simplest things (like marking and deleting posts) work just different enough to make it tedious. They asked to judge the "new and improved" Outlook and I gave them 5 points out of 10, telling them that I don't like the new look. I told them the same thing they unnecessarily changed things the last time; not that it would do me any good.

I never use it for that, so it's probably why I didn't notice anything.
