... and the horizon still seems too far away.

I had to spring in for a sick colleague today and realized (not for the first time but with a previously unknown intensity) that I can't really tolerate rude teenagers any longer. Those 45 minutes with that particular class caused the same number of hairs to turn grey. Or, at least, that was what it felt like.

To add insult to injury, I had the long shift today, and one mother conveniently forgot that we only watch over the kiddies until half past five. When at six o'clock there was still no sign of her, I packed the kids (a boy and a girl) and took them to the neighbouring pre-school where Momma was having a parent meeting or whatever it is called in English. I managed to remain civil (barely), and she was apologetic, but it still cost an extra 30-some minutes of my life that I won't get back. And I haven't so much time left that I could waste it like this. *sigh*

Anyway, I made some modest progress with the needle books and cut the panels for a Christmas-themed pocket letter, so the day wasn't completely wasted.

I never really liked working with teenagers. Small children - that is, between the age of 6 and 11 - are my favourites; I first graduated as an elementary school teacher, and that's my first love still. Teaching languages came later. I can still enjoy the company of children of that age and I like doing things with them if I get the chance.

I taught college and loved that age. I could talk with them as adults and yet they could still be silly. Sigh... good times.

Weeeell... tomorrow we have choir rehearsal, which is an entirely different can of worms.

Urg. I couldn't imagine having to teach 'orrible teens, and what a faff to have to sort out those lingering kids in the evening. So rude.

Some parents seem to believe that we are their free babysitters or whatnot.
