The needle book hasn't made any headway during the weekend, but I gave this mini sewing kit a try. If I understood correctly, the original was made of various sorts of crafting paper; I made mine of felt and chose to sew it instead of gluing, so that it would hold better.

This is my version:

It looks a lot smoother in reality, mind you, but since it isn't much larger than a matchbox, the close-up caused all uneven parts to stand out way too much. Yeah, I'm a rubbish photographer. But I'm planning to make a few more - as this one was ready in, oh, three hours altogether - and hope that the next ones will turn out less amateurish.

I'm also in a process to re-watch the 'Making of' videos of the Hobbit films (because I find the art of the WETA workshop simply stunning) and in one of them Alan Lee made an interesting comment. He said that the Stone Giants in the books were most likely just a metaphor for a mountain storm. Peter Jackson chose the other way, of course, giving in to his great passion for monsters of all sort, but I'm considering picking up Alan Lee's idea for whenever I get around to continue "If You Wish Upon A Dwobbit".

For those not familiar with my writing, this is the story of the Quest told from the POV of a female Bifur - invented by Ro, based on Tolkien's statement that outsiders couldn't tell female Dwarves from male ones when on a journey. I found that idea great and got her consent to use it for my stories, adding that Dwarf women would wear heavy fake beards when travelling, as they had only side whiskers.

This was long before PJ picked up "The Hobbit" and the fandom would be drowned in ridiculous romances involving dwobbits, aka half-Dwarf, half-Hobbit children. When this phenomenon first raised its ugly head, I was so annoyed by it that I started explaining in all my Dwarf-related stories that Dwarves couldn't actually breed with any other species because they were made by Aulë, not by Ilúvatar himself. None of this is canon, of course, I was just being belligerent, but I still stand to this idea.

Now I got another idea I was eager to use eventually, but since I didn't write it up at once, I managed to forget it. *headdesk*. It even came back to me once, but at time I didn't have paper and pen with me, and I forgot it again. Getting older does have its disadvantages. *sigh*

How cute. I love that and it's a clever idea. I hope your first day back isn't too awful.
