Because, apparently, mad dogs and Englishmen aren't the only ones to go out in the midday sun...

Today at 10 am was the funeral service for our lady dentist, the one who died last month. Naturally, Mum wanted to go; she is one of those old-fashioned people who insist on going to the cemetery at regular intervals and all that stuff. Personally, I think we should value people while they are still alive, but who am I to deny her such little comforts? We both liked our lady dentist a lot, she was a wonderful person and we knew her for at least twenty years if not longer.

So we crossed half the town - fortunately, we only had to change trams once and no underground passages with many stairs were involved - and found the Lutheran church easily enough. It was a wonderfully simple and rather small one... and fairly hot in the morning already. Other people were fanning themselves and suffering rather spectacularly; Mum and I just grinned. Compared with our flat yesterday afternoon, it was positively refreshing.

Anyway, the service was beautiful and the vicar's sermon went directly to the heart; apparently, he was a patient of our lady doctor, too. It was very personal. Mum didn't hear much of it, poor thing, so she managed it without crying; and so did I, although it wasn't easy. All in all, it brought one to a closure, so I'm glad we went, after all.

Afterwards, we made the same route plus some back and went to our nearby shopping centre where we could have a meal in a self-serving restaurant. Baked cauliflower with chips are for the win! We also had ice-cream, which was nice in this weather, and visited a KIK shop that relocated from one end of the shopping centre to the other and gave a 10% rabatt to everything (yes, I know that's a German word but I'm too hot to dig out my dictionary, okay?). I bought some crafting stuff (valiantly resisting the temptation to buy half the store as they didn't had such things before) and even got a ball pen as a gift because they reopened today.

Coming home, we celebrated the fact that we didn't have to wash up, had some coffee and fell asleep in front of our respective TVs. You know, this seems to become a repetitive patterns in this weather. In any case, I slept more than two hours while the poor telly murmured sweet nothings about accidents and deadly illnesses and people being stuck in burning houses in my ear... at least I think it did. Those are the kind of programmes that run in the early afternoon. I didn't actually hear a word of it. *g*

Now, two and a half hours later it is still very hot; too hot to open the windows yet. I've worked on the second pocket letter a bit, and now I'm about to post the last two chapters of "Little Bird" to AO3 as part of my great migration project from the Pit of Voles.

And I promised you pictures, right? Behold my very first pocket letters!

The next one isn't entirely finished yet - the upper middle pocket has a temporary filling that will be replaced as soon as I come up with a proper idea:
