Actually, the day started well enough. I managed to write half a page to the latest Mazarbul chapter, worked a bit on my second pocket letter - no pictures yet, but soon, I promise - and we had pleasant enough meals with Mum before the heat kicked in seriously.

But then we had an appointment with the chirpracticist (meaning the person who takes care of your feet - I don't know if this is the right word for it), and that's always a bothersome issue. She works well enough, and since she's independent, she comes to one's house, but she talks for six and while she's talking, she stops working. This is annoying enough under normal circumstances (for example when I have to fear whether I'll manage to get to work on time or not), but today it was particularly unpleasant. She came in the early afternoon, when we usually have all the blinds down to shut out the heat; and she wanted natural light beside the lamps, so we had to let in the heat for almost three hours, when it was the worst outside! I really don't know why would she insist; back when she worked at a hairdesser's she never had anything else but lamps and never complained about it.

As a result, the whole flat was unbearably hot the whole afternoon, up to 7 pm, when the Sun finally went low enough to open the windows. We're still cooked in our own hide; there was a moment when I feared that Mum might pass out.

Needless to say that I hasn't been of any use for the rest of the day. *scowls*

I think we call them podiatrists here. That's sort of weird that she needed 'natural' light. ugh for the heat. I had a taste of that up at the bunk house - really missed the a/c that we are so used to. I hope you were able to get cooled off eventually. Have you thought about getting a small a/c unit for times like this?

We do think about an a/c unit from time to time; a lot of people in the house have one. But frankly, the thought of having even more holes drilled into our already leaking balcony is a frightening one.

I know what you mean. Couldn't you get a window unit, though?
