I'm getting a feel for what it would be like to retire. Today was typical for which I envision for the long run after November.

I've got into the habit of getting up around 8 o'clock in the morning and do something while there are still reasonable temperatures. Today, it was typing up all the Dwarf-related stuff I wrote - or rewrote - in recent days (with a one-hour break to watch some crap telly). I'd usually cook after that, but Mum's managed to upset her stomach yesterday so she ate nothing but boiled potatoes and soup today, and soup was leftover, so I escaped cooking detail. Not that I wouldn't like to cook, mind you, but lazing around and playing computer games is really much more nice when it's this hot.

After midday meal I watched some more crap telly (and fell asleep three times during it, as usual in the early and very hot afternoon), before giving up on it and almost finishing my first ever pocket letter. I've got only one pocket left, and then there'll be pictures, honestly. It was gruelling work in this heat; the stupid paper stuck more often to my sweaty skin than to where it was supposed to go, in spite of the glue. But I finished what I planned, and Mum and I shared our last ice cream sandwich afterwards.

Some more lazing was on the programme again, but I've actually brought up enough willpower to post Chapter 14 of The Book of Mazarbul to AO3. I'll eventually put it up to FF.Net as well, but that will be a lot easier. The Pit of Voles doesn't require any dratted hand-coding, which is its only advantage on AO3, IMO.

Tomorrow we'll be having guests, so I whipped up a quick and easy cheesecake with raspberries - no, really, the whole thing cost me about 20 minutes! - which is in the oven right now. So I'm avoiding the kitchen because it's infernally hot in there. I'll check on the cake on every 30 minutes and that's it. A wonderful recipe, and you can make so many variations of it!

Nothing on telly tonight that would interest me, so I think I'm going to read some more fanfic and play some more solitary games. Life is good when you're - almost - retired!

Boy, imagine what it will be like for you in November, though... the short timer's walk, I understand, is a hard one. I won't be ready for another couple of years and I'm already starting to get bit by that bug.

It sounds like you got a lot done, despite the heat and crap TV, though.

I can't wait, actually. And the fact that I'll go back twice a week to sing in the choir with them ensures that I won't lost contact with the colleagues. Many of them are really lovely people.

Yeah, I can't wait either... that's the problem. I still have two years to go. Oh well, I shall have to live vicariously through you.
