Since I haven't left the flat for two days, I decided that going to town would be the right thing to do. Especially visiting craft shops and the likes. So, off I marched, and in 2.5 hours I managed to spend an obscene amount of money on craft papers, acrylic pens and so on. I'm feeling slightly guilty about it, but as I always say, I don't drink, don't smoke, don't pick up random women (unlike males my age) and have no interest in horse racing, so I need a bad habit, too.

Besides, the papers are incredibly beautiful. And I found the right-shaped pine cone for my unfinished box in one of the shops, so it was necessary to go, right? I didn't want to use something picked up from under a tree, because of the possibility of woodworms, and these things in the shops are already sterilized or whatever it is called. So, I invested the equivalent of an ice cream in the pine cone and am content with the solution.

I didn't do much else in the afternoon, save for watching telly and talking to my colleagues on the phone because it was sooo bloody hot. But now we could open all the windows again and it is actually fairly pleasant in our 53 square metres of concrete.

Tomorrow there will be creative times again!

Sounds like your purchases were definitely worth it!

Jeeze, looks like you've got the full-blown heat now, I'm so sorry. It's finally been a little cooler here this week. Still hot, but inside the house it's bearable now.

Ah, if you want to use things from nature (like pine cones) but you're worried about bugs... pop the item in the freezer for a week or so. The British Museum does this for antique textiles, papers and other wooden artifacts. Whenever I return from travelling anywhere exotic, I freeze anything that can't be washed. It's also a top tip for second hand clothes to get rid of moth larvae.

Oh, books! There was a time I had to prune my library regularly because there are only so many books you can keep in a 7 square metre room. Especially if you need space for the videotapes, too. And when I'd sold the ones teemed no longer necessary to the second-hand bookshop, half a year later I realized that I'd desperately need the one or other of them for some reason.

Of course, since the internet entered my life I read a great deal more online. Especially fanfiction. But I'd still go great lengths to get my hands on certain books. My current target is "Beren and LĂșthien", I just need a chance to get to Bestsellers, the only English bookshop in town.

Yeah, my big guy holds onto books with a death grip, but I have a capture and release program. I tend to leave them behind once I've finished (unless I really loved the book). My library is very small compared to his.

I like to soothe my conscience with the knowledge that in the end they'll go to charity, but that's only an excuse, of course.
