We had our monthly cleaning frenzy today. With hired help, but still, it ate the entire morning. And having help (on which Mum insists) doesn't mean that I can do anything useful at the meantime as said help is in every corner of the flat at the same time. So I went to the grocer's to put at least some of the completely wasted morning to use and bought the ingredients for a cheesecake. It is currently in the oven.

Yes, it is hot over here, too, and I'm probably insane, but baking helps me calm down. And it is a quick and easy recipe. Chopping the apricots to pieces so that Mum would be able to ate them took the longest - and we are speaking of 6 apricots only!

Therefore I haven't managed any writing today; that's for the somewhat more endurable morning hours. I was vegetating in front of the telly and did the baking parts in the ad pauses, solved half a crossword puzzle and managed to cut out two paper snowflakes for the pop-up Christmas card I'm about to give a try, but that was all the activity I managed.

Getting ingredients for the cheesecake was a good use of your time! I'm jealous, to be honest, we bought plums for a pie last Saturday already but it's been too hot to use the oven all week.

Sounds like you had a good lazy afternoon, which you well deserved after the cleaning frenzy in the morning.

We're luckier than you over there (I've just watched the news on RTL II, it sounds horrible); at least it cools down a tiny bit in the evening. But in earlier years I tended to bake in the middle of the night when it was too hot.

Hey, I love cooking and it doesn't matter what the weather is like. We are hot and really smoky here. I've got soup on the stove. *hugs*

I don't consider cooking and baking work, since I enjoy them. Work, for me, is always something unpleasant: like cleaning or ironing or washing up.

Exactly. There is nothing I enjoy more than when we get home from work and head into the kitchen to cook dinner. It's a time for us to talk about the day and just relax. And if there is appropriate music, there might be a little dancing, too. :D

Our kitchen isn't really suited for shared activities. It's fine while one is cooking and the other one sits in a corner and isn't underfoot, but that's all we can do there. Grandma used to require my help frequently, and that was always a very crowded affair.

It is so ungrateful, and the results never last...

Yep, the heat makes everything a lot harder. And I cannot bake to my heart's delight when it's 30+ degrees Celsius in the flat.
