Our last full day in St Pölten was nice and quiet again. In the morning we made a 50-minute sightseeing tour with the Bummelbahn - sorry, no idea what it could be called in English - and took a look at the excavation site in front of the cathedral to see how far they have come in the two years since we last saw it.

It is an interesting site, with a cemetery the oldest levels of which are from Roman times. They are still laying free the skeletons from the various layers and one can watch them working with those little brushes and filming every new found - something we usually only saw on the telly.

The cathedral itself is a barock monstrosity like every other church in town. The funny part is that the burgher houses built in the same time are actually quite lovely. Must be the complete lack of gilded stuff that makes the difference. I'll post a few photos of the lovely stuff once I am back on my main PC.

Other than that, we made a two-hour lunch break and went back to the city for coffee and ice cream and for a little walk. Now we have our suitcases packed, save for the toiletries and are looking forward to going home. It was a lovely time, but we are both tired and long for our own bed.

An old photo of the "Bummelzug":

All of that sounds lovely, I look forward to the pics! Good that you both got to spend the last day together again. Is your Mom fully recovered now?

She's all better, thank you. It's a bit unpredictable what she can eat in foreign places without getting problems; has been that way ever since her gall bladder was removed.
