I've finished the inner layer of the Christmas explosion box inspired by but not identical with the one from Srushti Patil (see previous entry). It turned out differently, but I like it a lot.

This is what it looks in the inside:

And this is the inside, with small half-pockets and a few somewhat amateurish tags. They don't look very professional, the poor dears, but at last I could put the embossing stamp kit I got from my relatives two Christmasses ago (and that I hardly ever use), to good use - sorry for the pun.

As always, the pictures aren't really high quality - but again, I'm not [livejournal.com profile] lindahoyland.

I also managed to write a bit for Timescapes and baked a chocolate-almond cake, filled with red currant jam. No picture because it looks exactly like every other chocolate cake I've ever baked. *g*

The tags look nice to me! Seems like you've made some very nice progress, too.

Damn, I'm drooling at the thought of that cake. It sounds delicious (I still haven't gotten around to baking, maybe this weekend)

Tags are terribly amateurish compared with the work of YouTube professionals, but that's the best I can produce right now. The progress was nice enough, though.

The cake is tasty enough, even though the very middle of it remained a bit moist, which it wasn't supposed to do. Replacing most of the flour with grated almonds doesn't work so easily as I expected, it seems.

Ah, that's a shame, but it looked so good anyway. Are you going to keep with the almonds or change the recipe again next time?

I'll return to the original recipe of just eggs, sugar, flour and cocoa powder. The cake is lighter and fluffier that way and bakes through withing 20 minutes.

Yeah, sounds like the better choice. Did the almonds at least improve the taste?

Not really. The cocoa proved too strong.
