Well, this is a larger box, with 10cmx10cm sides that can serve both as a photo album and an Advent calendar.

Let's take a look at the closed box first. The writing on top means "Merry Christmas" in Hungarian, BTW:

Now a glimpse at the inside (this is a single-layer box, for reasons that will become clear):

(Sorry for the uniform blueness of it; the actual colours are much brighter, but my iPad decided it didn't like the illumination. *sigh*)

The individual pockets. They are numbered for the Advent calendar function, but I only took a photo from one side as they are basically identical. I used the Chrome function when cleaning up the photo and now the colours are a bit too bright. It seems I can't get them right, no matter what I try. I used snippets from Christmas wrapping paper, by the way, and created the number tags by simply outlining a coin and cutting them out with patterned scissors.

And finally 2 almost identical photos of the finished box; on one the lid is shown from above, on the other one the inside of it, just for archiving reasons. ;))

Again, the colours all have a blue tint; my iPad likes blue, I hate it, but I can't trick the stubborn thing. At least it takes good, sharp photos of small things, something I never manage with a regular camera.

Aaaaah but the box turned out gorgeous, even if the colors aren't quite as nice as in real life on the pictures.

Beautiful! It looks really complicated though.

It is, a bit. The original tutorial works with envelopes, which I didn't have, so I had to create the pockets from card stock, one by one, and decoration and putting the whole thing together took days. But I enjoyed myself enormously. It also good for the creativity, make do with one actually has instead of what's supposed to be used. ;))

That's certainly true, it forces improvisation. Must take a lot of card though, and you really have to get your measurements right so that it all fits together. I don't think I'd have the patience!

The main problem is that I cannot cut in a straight line. Not with scissors, not with a slicer, not with anything. So everything I make ends up crooked and lopsided, even if I'm the only one who knows it. It's most annoying. And don't even let me begin to complain about double-sided sellotape!

Cutting straight lines is a nightmare. I use a metal ruler and a craft knife but if the ruler shifts as I'm cutting, I get a wonky edge instead. As for getting right angles, there must be a trick to it that I don't know.

I use double-sided tape a lot, but peeling the backing strip off drives me nuts.

The same here, on both occasions. I'm a bit unlucky with my last roll of double-sided tape; they obviously stored it somewhere too warm because it's near impossible to peel the backing strip off. I need to use a pointy object to keep the glue strip on the surface I need to be glued... And metal rulers are prone to dance samba under my hands. *sigh*

The old-fashioned paper guillotines we had at school were the best for cutting straight, but also the most dangerous and likely to cut off unwary fingers.

Sometimes you can get double sided tape where the backing strip is wider than the sticky tape to make it easier to remove.

That would be practical indeed, but I never saw the sort over here.

I've got a perfectly good rolling blade cutter, but I always manage to lay in the sheet of paper wrong, so they never end up perfectly straight. I managed the same with the old-fashioned paper guillotines, too. Apparently, it's a personal talent. *sigh*

Straight lines are just the hardest things ever. They're unnatural ;)

Oh, that's too bad. It should be universally available =(

Oh, I think you are working plenty hard! It's just not your usual job. It's a bit like me with my quilting.

And I did get Fred's hat made yesterday. Now he just needs a cape.

Fred is our little purple bunny. He travels with us and we are going to be visiting a mask making shop (and making masks) in Venice. It was only right that he would have a mask, a cape and tricorn hat.

Here is the post that I made for his mask - https://spikesgirl58.livejournal.com/2148578.html

It is just gorgeous. I love the colorful Christmas papers you used for the pockets. Whoever's getting this is getting the treasure of a lifetime.

Oh, you know, I just follow the instructions in the tutorials. The real creativity begins when they suggest papers and tools and extras that are impossible to get here. Then I have to come up with something to replace them.
