So, I found a new way to make explosion boxes on YouTube and gave it a try in the morning:

I've made the basic box but dumbed down the whole thing to make it easier. It looks about the same as in this tutorial, all I have to do is the decoration. But that has time.

Then Mum and I went to deal with grocery shopping, paying the bills and making insurance for our upcoming holidays, all in the same shopping centre, where we also had lunch.

Coming home, I finished the translation of some Dwarf-related description scene from my original fantasy novel that I might or might not use in a reworked form for The Book of Mazarbul. It wasn't easy - my native Hungarian has a weird grammar that is very different from any other European languages (save Finnish), so it's hard work to make the stuff mean the same thing in, say, English or even German. And considering how much better I am at German, you must admit that I worked very hard indeed. *g*

Then I felt the need to relax a little, so I went to bake a Quarkkuchen with cherries. Those unfamiliar with German terms, it's the German version of cheesecake. It's still in the oven, but I really needed to go online to put up the daily post for [livejournal.com profile] picowrimo.

So yeah, a busy day. I think I'm going to read some fanfic now.

Oh yes, a very busy day indeed! You've gotten so much done! How's the new technique for your explosion boxes, do you think you will use it more often?

It is very useful for boxes where you don't need to use the corner pieces for hearts and stuff. I was able to make a box with 10x10cm panels out of a sheet that is 32cm x 24 cm. With the usual technique, I'd need a 30 cm x 30cm sheet of scrapbook paper for such a box. So yeah, I'll use it in the future, too, whenever I can.

The tutorial sows the box being glued together from 4 pieces of 10cm x 20cm cardboard. I found that unnecessarily complicated and used 2 pieces of 10cm x 30 cm, gluing together the middle squares and it worked like a charm. Instead of the envelopes, which I didn't have, I used 10 pieces of 9.5cm x 9.5cm Tonpapier, folded in half, with a 1cm lash on one side - it also worked like a charm.

Aw yeah, definitely looks like a good method to go about it - with your fixes, that is. It's great that you have enough experience with the boxes by now that you can quickly adjust these tutorials to your needs.

Yes, it is definitely a process of learning by doing. At first every new pattern looks so intimidatingly complicated, but after a while you learn to see through their tricks. *g*

I wondered about the four-piece method for the box, too. I really can't wait to try making one.

I've just finished mine. Check out my newest entry. The four-piece method is unnecessarily complicated. Mine works very well with the two-piece method. And, if I may say so myself, it looks grand. I decided not to make the little pearly feet, though, they'd only fall off all the time.

I'm also going to learn how to make pop-up cards. I want to make a series of pop-up vegetable cards for my daughter. Not sure where I'm going to get the vegetable images, but I'll work it out:)

I'm a frigging newbie to pop-up cards, although I'm seriously planning to make one with a Christmas tree for the next box. The tutorial seems simple enough, but I'll have to cut a lot of straight lines, which I can't do, so it promises to be a real adventure.

I promised myself I will not begin these craft projects until August! That includes NO YouTube tutorials:)
