Domestic delights
May. 31st, 2018 08:16 pmLook this! I made strawberry jam, for the first time in my life:

I mean, I used to make all sorts of preserves with my Grandma in my misspent youth, but I was always just the kitchen slave for the dirty work, she had the deciding vote in everything. So when she passed over, the poor thing, I refused to do anything like this for over two decades. But it's strawberry season, and everyone was talking about strawberry jam and the easiest ways to make it, and I felt inspired to give it a try again.
FYI, it doesn't just look pretty, it's absolutely delicious, too. We opened the small jar that was only one-third full to make a quality check - very important, right? - and I'm pleased with the results.
While going through the kitchen cupboard, we also found some really old jars of jam, still made by Granny (and me), but still flawless. I think I'll bake Linzertorte repeatedly in the near future to use up some of them.
