I find it sad what a lonely place LJ has become. I've joined a decade and a half ago to keep in touch with my online friends most of whom lived on the other side of the pond, because this was a lively and interactive place and I had no other chance to contact them, snail mail being what it is, above all other things expensive.

Now people state that they no longer have the time and/or the patience for this place. Others have left because of the ownership and policy changes, which I actually understand. The problem is, though, that because of this old contact have been broken up and people just left their online friends behind, too; and it is those friends who are punished by this, not the site owners.

Yes, I know, the popular thing to say is that there is Dreamwidth and there are the social media, everyone should go there. But not everyone is suited for the hectic and superficial social media, and as for DW, well, I do import this journal to my account there once a week but so far nobody could bother to read it over there.

So, who does actually lose a lot by people leaving this place?

I'm on both, and they are quieter than they were, which is sad...

Yes, it is. After all that brouhaha about fleeing to a community where freedom of speech is guaranteed, no-one seems to feel the actual need to, you know, speak.
