who was the last person you talked to on the phone? : Mum's best lady friend.
has it snowed recently where you live? : Yes, off and on for days now.
what gift would you love to receive? : Stuff for crafting. They are expensive. Oh, and paid LJ time, since I'm unable to get it from here.
who are your top 3 actresses? : I don't think you've ever heard of them; they're all Hungarian and been dead for years upon years by now.
how do you feel about elephants? : Love the baby elephant.
what's the last thing you cooked on the stove? : Turkey ragout with noodles.
have you ever been to Australia? : no
what color is the cover of the last notebook you used? : I use old desktop calendars. The cheep ones that don't even have a cover.
who was the last person you know to have a birthday? : Mum
what's a musical instrument you think sounds really beautiful? : Church organs
do you play that instrument? : Used to play the piano, the guitar and two different flutes, but sucked at them all. Oh, and I learned to play the organ for a very short time.
do you have a favorite type of pasta? Käsespätzle. Sorry, there is only the German word for it. It's a special kind of pasta, eaten with grated Emmenthal cheese.
do you consider yourself religious? : I believe in God but had a fall-out with the institution Church after having spent years in a convent and as a parish employee, respectively.
how many times a day do you brush your teeth? : twice as a rule; more often if necessary
do you always use proper grammar? : I try to, but English grammar is a tricky thing for a non-native speaker. I'm better at German grammar. And my own language, of course.
what's the last play/musical you saw? : I can't remember. But we have a repertoire of Verdi choirs that we sing at special occasions - does it count?
who sent the last e-mail you got? : Heidi
where did you get the shirt you're wearing right now? : In a cheap Chinese shop.
should you be doing something else right now? : Several things, but I'm just too tired.
do you know any sign language? : no
what song is currently stuck in your head? : That Scottish song with the refrain "And you'll take the high road and I'll take the low road..." I blame Runrig and John Barrowman on YouTube.
do you have a favorite shape? : no
what's the last song you bought/downloaded? : I bought "An Evening in Rivendell", back in the Stone Age.
what color are the sheets on your bed? : Pale yellow
do you have a string of lights in your room? : no
what shoes did you wear today?: Heavy-duty Birkenstocks, as always when at work.
how do you feel about bookstores? : Love them, but they rarely have the books I really want.
when was the last time you saw a squirrel? : No idea. It was during some trip organized by the school, I think, but I can't remember any details.
did you do anything to observe groundhog day?: No
what time do you usually go to bed?: Between 1 and 2 am.
do you ever use coloring books? : Not anymore. No time.
how do you feel about instrumental music? : Church organs are the peak of musical enjoyment.
are you wearing a necklace? : No. I used to, with a St Benedict medal, but it got caught on my birthmarks all the time and I thought it was too risky.

does it annoy you when you have a song stuck in your head... : It depends on the song, but yeah, it's usually annoying.
... but you don't remember the words? : As a rule, if I sing the song for me often enough, the words come back. Not always, though.
when was the last time you got a haircut? : Before Christmas.
are you planning on watching the olympics? : No. I find them boring.
do you pronounce the word often with or without a t in the middle?: Without, if I happen to remember the rule. With, if I mix it up with the German world oft, which means the same and has to be pronounced with a t.
what's the last thing you received in the mail? : a stupid official letter about the upcoming elections.
have you ever been on a trapeze? : They don't build a massive enough trapeze that would hold my weight. *g*
what's the coolest natural event you've ever witnessed?: A double rainbow.
do you know how to use chopsticks? : Not very well; my hands cramp too easily.
what's your opinion on the oxford comma? : No idea what it is.
do you buy chocolate after valentine's day when it goes on sale? : I buy chocolate whenever the hunger packs me, regardless of the time of the year. Too often, I'm afraid.
do you know anyone who celebrates Hanukkah? No, but I have a lovely Jewish colleague whom we give gift for Hanukkah, even though they are not religious. She's always touched by the gesture.
who is someone you aspire to be like? : My Granny.
do you think bunnies are cute? : if they are made of felt... *g*
do you have a preferred brand of toothpaste? : Odol. But it's too expensive, so we use a different brand.
do you enjoy popping bubble wrap? : Obsessively. Especially by watching TV.
are there any waterfalls near where you live? : Only an artificial one.
do you own a denim jacket? : No
when was the last time you went to the beach? : It has been at least 10 years. We don't have a beach in the country.
do you like seafood? : Just fish
have you ever had to wear a uniform for anything? : Well, I used to be a nun, does that count?
if so, what did it look like? : Unsurprisingly, it was black, with a white veil, since I was still a novice.
how do you feel about birds? : I like them, but only from afar. I'm not really an animal person.
do you personally know anyone who is an author? : I met two, I think, but those were official events. But I think [livejournal.com profile] altariel counts, since she had Dr Who and DS9 stuff published.
do you own a polaroid camera? : no
do you enjoy baking? : One of my not-so-secret obsessions.
what's your favorite type of flower? : Roses, lilies and gerberas, I think.
last time (if ever) you were on an airplane, where were you going?: Many years ago, on a package holiday to Stockholm, I hate flying.
do you know anyone who is left-handed? :Yes, many of my students are.
what is something you think is underrated? : Medical personnel (nurses and everyone who cares for old and ill people)

My aunt makes Spätzle for me but I have never eaten them with Emmenthal. I usually eat them with parmesan! A clash of cultures.

We don't like parmesan, it is too spicy for us. Using Emmenthal is something of a splurge, as it is fairly expensive over here, but at one point of our lives we decided that after so many years on this planet in quite romantic poverty we'll go for quality instead of quantity. *g*
