Progress report
Jan. 14th, 2018 05:28 pmAfter four days, my condition improved so far that the high fever is finally down and I'm no longer feeling dizzy all the time. I'm still barking at the moon like a depressed werwolf and therefore unable to sleep more than two hours in a row, but improvement is improvement nonetheless.
In the meantime Mum managed to get her own cold by way of nancing around in the flat in just a nightgown after taking a shower. She never feels cold and is incredibly angry with me whenever I tell you that wearing such light clothing is not good for her - well, I hate to be right in this, but she's been coughing for two days already, and it doesn't seem to go away any time soon. Old people can be frustratingly stubborn.
I had to bake some buns today because we ran out of bread and neither of us is up to do any shopping. Milk promises to last for another two days perhaps; then we'll switch to instant cappuccino, most likely. But when we run out of potatoes, too, I'll have to go down anyway.
I was in a really bad shape in the recent days. The only thing I managed to do was dozing in front of the telly - well, at least I managed to re-watch the complete first season of Sanctuary, which I've been planning to do for quite some time. It is one of the better shows, but what I like most is the fact that so many Stargate actors have leading, recurring or guest roles in it: Amanda Tapping and Christopher Heyerdahl, of course, then Paul McGillion, Ryan Robbins, Jonathon Young, Peter Wingfield, Kavan Smith, Chuck Campbell and so on. I particularly like Jonathon Young as Nikola Tesla; he had such a tiny guest role in SGA, but in this he's fantastically creepy. Although, I must ruefully admit that I didn't recognize David Nykl in his one short appearance. *g*
In any case, I'm seriously considering to try and order Seasons 3 and 4, just to have the whole thing. I don't like doing things by halves.
The one good thing that happened to me in these four days is that - after a very long time - I finally managed to write something new. It is for my Primeval/Torchwood/Sherlock BBC crossover; at first I thought the idea fairly insignificant, just interesting, but as I started to write it down, I realized it might give the entire story a really hard twist - I hope I'll be able to pull it off.

Date: 2018-01-14 04:33 pm (UTC)But oh man, I'm really concerned about you and your Mom, your cold sounds so bad even though it's gotten a little better already :( I hope both of you will be feeling better soon (and I feel you so much on people being stubborn and then oh a cold)

Date: 2018-01-16 10:50 am (UTC)I've worked out the twist and wrote a whole chunk of info dump, which I'll have to spread very carefully across several chapters to make the details surprising instead just plain boring. But I've got high hopes that I can do this.

Date: 2018-01-15 01:40 am (UTC)I woke up this morning with the fiercest bronchial coughing. I think I’ve come down with something. Off to the doctors because this sounds really nasty.
Hope you feel better soon. And your mum.

Date: 2018-01-16 10:52 am (UTC)I've bought the first 2 seasons of Sanctuary because of Amanda Tapping as well - the show was never shown in German tv, which is a shame. I'll try to get the other two seasons as well, but if I can't, at least Season 4 definitely seems to be available on YouTube, so that I can at least watch.

Date: 2018-01-16 10:55 am (UTC)The story is taking shape; what I'll have to be careful about is not to get lost in detailed trivia, just because I personally find it fun. Reminds me of Tolkien who said that he could write a whole book just about the eating and other habits of Hobbits but he doubted that many other people would be interested in that. I'm going through the same process with my time-displaced tribe of Neanderthals.
