Small woes

Boring post, so I'll hide it.

Last time I went to the "Stories of Arda", the site had a hit meter. Unless I'm completely confusing it with something else.

Anyway, I seemed to remember that it did, and I went there again to see how many people might have at least clicked on The Exercise of Vital Powers, as the poor story seems to have been buried unnoticed in the black pit that is Ff.net. And guess what? Either the hit meter isn't there anymore, or I'm too stupid to remember where it was visible. And I so needed an ego boast... Ah, well.

Larian the Wonderful managed to beta-read the new Innocence chapter in record time. But my inner fangirl has put her foot down and keeps the chapter hostage. Joy...

I've come to the conclusion that the universe hates me. To quote Captain Kirk loosely, there are the big things (TM), against which we can't really do anything: like interplanetary wars or plagues or supernovae. But a person shold be allowed to expect that at least the small things would cooperate.

Well, it didn't work for Kirk when he wanted to organize for McCoy the perfect birthday, and it doesn't seem to work for me, either. Damn.

FF.net just hates all authors, you know that. The Big Things (TM) are against us too. All we want is a quote to have the electricity supply connected to our small farm and you should see the forms! And we have to trespass on someone's else property to get the power pole number. We had to threaten to sue the phone company to get a quote off them too.

The universe is against us all.

*pat pat* Alas, ever the ways of a fanfic author.

I know it's frustrating. I can't even get reviews to stick, half the time--but I promise to keep trying! I love your work, and recommend it every chance I get.

Don't worry about hit meters. Just keep writing. Do it for you, do it for your fans, do it for those who haven't discovered you yet.

It all evens out in time.

Hugs,
Jasta

Funny thing is, I *did* find the hit meter again. I'm just too stupid sometimes. Anyway, it's a good thing to see 140 people having at least clicked on "Of Elflings and Mice", for exampe, even if none of them cared to drop a line. It makes me feel appreciated.

Eventually your inner fangirl will relent and allow you to release that chapter.

Of course, that will coincide with the next month-long ff.net crash...

I dunno. My inner fangirl is a stubborn git. She is obsessed with round numbers and seems to believe firmly that 150 is the proper number (unlike Lord Elrond of OFUM who'd settle for Naturally Nine). And that's still 2 reviews away.

I think Jenn is right. She simply hits her inner fangirl with the nearest heavy object in case of a disagreement. Maybe I should do the same. Hmmm...

And you shouldn't give ff.net ideas. The side is "creative" enough on its own. *shudders*
