TA is a young colleague of mine whom I love very much and who appreciates handmade gifts like few other people on this planet. I already made her the most elaborate wedding album, a bride plushie, a decorated candle and other stuff, and she loved them all.

Now, since her family is Jewish and they don't really do the whole Christmas hooppla, I decided to make her a New Year themed explosion box. I'm quite content with it and hope that she'll like this one, too.

The finished box, closed, with lid:

The lid, seen from above. The letters on top are an abbreviation of Boldog Új Évet Kívánok, the Hungarian version of Happy New Year.

The outer layer with funny signs:

The middle layer; I decided to keep it simple because TA likes such geometric patterns, with lots of black and white:

And finally the inner layer. The sign behind the gate-folded window says: She needed a HERO, so that is what she became. I like that a lot:

Now I'm going to make another box for a colleague of my age who's often done me small favours, like giving me a lift home, so she deserves something special.

I also brought the kiddies into the box-making home industry; they are eagerly making their own boxes for the parents as Christmas gifts. When those are done, I'll post some pics here. They are very creative and talented for 10-11-year-olds.

I hope so. I wish you would live within reach, then I could make you a cat-themed box. Alas, these things won't survive the brutality of postal services, and I don't see a chance in the near future for a hand delivery.

I enjoy making these things very much. And giving them away as gifts gives me the excuse to make more.:))

I regret that I can't send you one, but these things are too fragile for the post. And sending the individual layers, so that the recipient has to put it together her sell just isn't the same.

If I ever get a chance to visit Budapest, I'll give you plenty of advance warning :)

Seriously though, these are impressive gifts.

God, it would be wonderful to meet you in person! I used to choose my holidays (usually travel agency-orchestrated group events by coach) so that I could meet online friends from England and Sweden and Germany and the Netherlands, but I'm not going any further than Austria in these days, and the States were always way beyond my reach. I'm deadly afraid of flying.

I once had [livejournal.com profile] ithilwen over here, and [livejournal.com profile] earonn, too. Should you get the chance to come, I hope I'll still be mobile enough to show you around in my beautiful city. And I'll make you a box, of course. *g*
