Cooking instead of baking today

So, I made curd dumplings today. With vanilla sauce. Curd was on sale in the supermarket, and as it is usually shamelessly expensive, I jumped at the chance, since both Mum and I love just about everything made with curd.

Look at the results. Seems yummy, doesn't it?



The little starburst on the vanilla sauce is merely decoration - strawberry sauce. If anyone wants the recipe, holler and I'll post it. It is a light meal and really good.

It is Topfenknödel, of course it is delicious! Or do you say Quarkknödel where you live?
I've tried to make them when I lived in Germany, but you can't really make them of Sahnequark - you have to put so much Grieß and Paniermehl into the mix that the dumplings become stone hard. You need the dry, pressed curd known in Austria as Topfen to achieve the right results.

Da ich in Norddeutschland bin, glaube ich, dass man sie hier eigentlich gar nicht macht. Aber als Topfenknödel kenne ich sie, aus Rezepten und Kochsendungen jedenfalls. Selbst gemacht habe ich sie noch nicht. Mache ich wohl auch so bald nicht, wenn es mit normalem Quark nichts wird. Topfen bekommt man hier nicht.

Du kannst Dickmilch kaufen, sie in einer Tüte aus Tüll oder Leinen oder Baumwolle aufhängen (in der Speisekammer oder im Keller, Hauptsache es is kühl dort), die Flüssigkeit gründlich abtropfen lassen und nach einem Tag or zwei richtig auspressen durch die Tüte. and voilá, Du hast Topfen!

Gute Idee! Falls ich mich an die Knödel mal rangebe probiere ich das aus.
