So, I made a small chocolate cake for a colleague, who is a very nice young woman (half my age, actually), to celebrate the fact that she's successfully faced a complicated (work-related) situation. I hope she'll like it. As she's allergic to lactose, I had to make a cake that had no dairy products in it and still tastes good.

Here it is, waiting in its box to be taken to school tomorrow:

On a side note: where is everyone? Granted, I mostly keep this journal to follow the events of my own life - and those of my online friends - but where have said friends gone? In these days Linda is the only one still around. :(

Also, I began to post my Tolkien fic to AO3. Very few people over there seem to be interested in Tolkienfic anymore. And even those seem to be completely uninterested in the stories I personally think are my best ones. Like "The Face of the Enemy", "The Last Stand" or the Halabor-related ones. Are people only interested in formulaic fic in these days?

I find that the most grateful readers are still in the Torchwood fandom. Go figure. They even comment in every leap year, unlike the others.

It has red currant jam inside, since the poor girl isn't allowed to eat butter cream filling, but I hope it will taste well. *g*

Hey, good to see you! Even if you have a paper bag over your head. *g*
How are the German studies doing? And your sweet little boy? Is he healthy and growing properly?

Not learning German at present but himself is in great form, attempting to crawl on the yoga mat right now!

Sorry, I'm an idiot. I mixed you up with [livejournal.com profile] espresso_addict, she is the one with the German course. *ducks in shame*

It is a tad lopsided, the poor thing, but these stupid sponge cakes always go up like that in the oven. Still, I'm pleased with it.

Cake looks wonderful! I'm intermittently still reading, even if I rarely post. (Barely do anything worth posting about...)

I haven't written a thing for weeks! This is probably the longest I've gone without writing. Of course, hand-coding all the stuff I post to AO3 in these days eats up whatever spare time I might have.

The cake looks great! Delicious, dark chocolate - my favorite flavor! Confess, you sneaky cake taster. Did you lick the bowl, or did you swipe a chunk of cake on the back side where the photo doesn't show it? Heh, heh:D

I have not been online much. I'm usually a week behind on friends' posts (as you've probably noticed!) I'm trying to post a bit more, just a photo with a few lines, something about what I've been up to lately, which doesn't amount to much. My life is as exciting as a trip to the dentist. Which is what I'll be doing tomorrow morning.

I love your Tolkien snips and links from picowrimo. I will get over to AO3 and start with the ones you've said you think are your best. I wonder if the interest in Tolkienfic has faded because it's been quite a while 'The Hobbit' movies were released - the waning of an exciting time for all things Tolkien.

What did tha Hobbit movies do with Tolkien? Very little, IMO. Even the Axe&Bow group died in the aftermath.

As for not leading an exciting life: neither do I. But LJ is an excellent way to stay in touch with online friends without bothering them with private emails about banalities for us, older cirizens not made for the hectic of the newer social media sites. I would really hate to drift apart.

re: Tolkien fic: I think the (dreadful) Hobbit movie(s) killed some interest in the series. :(

Actually, it killed the Axe&Bow Yahoo group that had been around for more than a decade! And it was a Legolas/Gimli group, too!
