As if I needed any more plotbunnies...

In any case, I've recently discovered this highly addictive game and it gave me a Sherlock AU story idea. I gave it the temporary label "Turn Left - The Veteran's House". Very original, I know, considering what the game is called...

In any case, the idea is this: What if John Watson, coming from his fruitless therapy session, chose a different way to get back to his depressing bedsit? That would mean he didn't run into Mike Stamford, and Mike wouldn't introduce him to Sherlock. So, what would he do?

I assumed that - since he couldn't afford London on his Army pension, as we were told in the first episode - he reluctantly decided to move into a small village (a bit like Miss Marple's St Mary Mead) in relatively close proximity. He would take over a ruined house that he'd inherited from his grandparents/maiden aunt/slightly mad uncle/whatever years ago but ignored it, since he was in Afghanistan.

The highest level of the game shows the house in a desolate state, with a leaking roof, broken furniture, ruined plumbing, infested with animals and full of junk. The fact that the character called The Poor Guy shows up in two different versions lets conclude that the homeless people use it for shelter. However, there are also skeletons buried in the garden - and not only animal ones. And it is a haunted house, too, since there is a character called The Zombie Worker.

So, apparently, the house has a dark secret - or more. And since the audio effects of the game give The Banker and The Real Estate Agent a fairly sinister laugh, some people are either involved in that secret or know about it. There is also a fair amount of treasure hidden among the debris, and one of the charcters, Jungle Jones, is clearly a treasure hunter. There is also a Mr Reno who is rather untrustworthy, by the look of him.

Other characters include a Policeman, two young people named Kate and Justin, who seem nice enough and might probably volunteer to help John clean and repair the house, and The Plumber, about whom I still can't decide if he might be a good guy or a bad guy.

In any case, John, Kate and Justin might discover the secret of the house, or at least find some clues, which could endanger them greatly. Which is where Sherlock might enter the picture (perhaps via Mrs Hudson, whose sister - a canon character we never saw on screen - also lives in the village?), and so the two men destined to be best friends can meet, after all.

I admit not having the faintest idea about the actual plot, but the bunny has firmly attached itself to my ankle. *sigh*

Be careful what you wish for - you might get it! If I ever get around to write the story, it will need a beta, after all. *g*

Thank you for the e-card, BTW, it was very funny.
