I'm giving up on AO3!

No, seriously! I've tried to import a very long story from hiddenrealms, did all the prep work, and the site told me that they can't import it from there for some reason. The same happened with a 25-chapter story from SoA. I tried to import the same story as one big chunk, and the site told me that a story has already been imported from that url, which I happen to know that it hasn't.

So long, AO3. I'm not going to hand-code stories that are several dozen chapters long all again, just because you aren't willing to accept imports. I'm too old and work too long hours to waste my time with that.

Honestly, the only user-friendly archives are FF.Net, which is full of crap and mean-spirited readers, and SoA, where I'm not allowed to post half of my stuff. Things like this can kill what little inspiration I can find to write!

You have problems with it, too?
It seems to be a more or less recent problem. I've imported quite a few stories from both SoA and LJ, but in the last couple of months all I ever get is an error message. It's very annoying. Finally an archive where I could post just about everything, but it is so much extra work that I just can't make myself bother.

I don't think I ever figured out how to make it work for me, actually. Never tried too hard since I didn't do any large-style upload of old stories, mostly just mirrored new stories on AO3.

I wanted to put all my stuff up, in case something happens to FF.Net, but I really, honestly can't do all the hand-coding. I've got 160 stories on FF.Net alone, and quite a few that are only posted on LJ, for various reasons - it's simply too much work.

Yeah, that's understandable! It's way too much to transfer it by hand.

Hopefully AO3's transferring system will improve in time.

There's also another site I've seen people link to, wattpad? I've never been there, but when I eventually look into it I will tell you if it is more accommodating.

Indeed. Were FF.Net not so overrun by the stupid, it would be the ideal solution, but I can never know when some joker reports me for rule violation if I'm not extra careful, and then I could have my account yanked, after a decade and a half... ;(
