Back from Vienna
Dec. 6th, 2015 06:34 pmThanks for the good wishes, we had a wonderful time. We didn't go to the big, kitschy Christmas market, though, having discovered a small, tasteful and amazing one near St Stephan's Cathedral almost by accident. If you get the chance, go and visit it.
I've made too many photos to upload them to LJ, but if you're interested and happen to have a Pinterest account, they have their own board over there now. I apologize by those without an account, but this is the easiest way for me to share my stuff.
Oh and in case inquiring minds want to know, the Tiroler Apple Punch Mum is drining on one of the pictures contains pieces of apples, apple juice, straw rum, white wine, lemon juice and probably some spices I've already forgotten. In any case, it was delicious.
Edit:
I forgot to add that I even managed to buy some DVDs. One of them was the extended edition of The Hobbit - The Battle of the Five Armies, which I never bothered to go and watch in the cinema, as the 3D effects continually get on my nerves and distract me from the actual plot. Which was probably their function, so that Tolkien lovers don't realize the plotholes and the canon rape... or that they are watching a film that might be interesting in its own right but has preciously little to do with Tolkien or "The Hobbit". In any case, I'm currently watching the bonus material, where they show how they did things, and that is actually rather interesting.
The other is an old sci-fi classic, the ultimate sci-fi film of the 1950s, shot in glorious technicolor, which I was very happy to discover: This Island Earth. I've been collecting the classics for years by now and am the proud owner of a copy of the original "The Day the Earth Stood Still", not the horrible remake with Keanu Reeves, "The Andromeda Strain" and "Enemy Mine". "This Island Earth" is a great addition; now if I could only lay my hands on "Forbidden Planet"!

Date: 2015-12-06 07:39 pm (UTC)Now, the orange punch we had two winters ago in Graz, had a kick like a mule. You didn't realize while thinking, it was sooo tasty, but afterwards we had difficulties to start going. *g*

Date: 2015-12-07 12:37 am (UTC)The market looks fantastic, such beautiful things, and so much of it looks hand made. And your mother is quite stylish in purple :) Do you get to keep the red boot mugs?

Date: 2015-12-07 04:50 pm (UTC)Mum's coat is actually a deep burgundy red - I don't know why it turned purple on the photo. Perhaps something with the festive lights... or the iPad Mini can't get them right from a distance.
I forgot to add: yes, we could keep the red boot mug. You have to pay for it, and if you bring it back, you get the 3 Euros back. If you want to keep it, you can simply do so.
