I mean copying my fics to AO3. It is arduous and boring, but I need a back up in case FF.Net goes down permanently one day. I'm not really counting on new readers - my 70-so me stories haven't got a double digit of reviews together - just an additional layer of safety for my stuff. I've accepted the fact that aside from a few personal friends nobody's going to give a shit. It's depressing, but not something I can change. Moving "Adventures" now, I nearly got blind in the process of importing and editing 52 chapters so far.

Speaking of copying stuff, does anyone know if LJ has completely removed the Rich Text editor or just hidden somewhere else? I need it to copy stuff from FF.Net to LJ but can't find it anymore, since the last site update.

Are you asking about finding the editor on your posting page? Forgive me if I misunderstood you, but if that's the question, it's called the "Visual Editor" now, and the tab is there, right next to the html tab. If it doesn't show up there, then you've definitely got a screwed up posting page and need a note to Support!

Right, Visual Editor. Rich Text Editor is on Yahoo Groups.
Anyway, the thing is there when I'm on my laptop, as I've just found out to my relief. It's just missing or hiding on the iPad. But since I'm not dealing with story imports on the iPad it's not so bad.

Thanks for the help.

I still have the visual editor option when I post, which I think is the same as Rich Text editor. I'm glad you are putting your stories on AO3.It is important they survive. I greatly enjoy those I read.

And you are one of those rare gems who review, too! :)
I'm nor very fond of AO3 - I prefer FF.Net, where I can directly upload my stuff from my computer. Plus, they allow Real Person Fic, which I find unethical, unless the real persons have been dead for at least five centuries. But as a backup it's very useful.

I hope to finish A Matter of Time in a month or so, and then I'll pick up something you like. Either Sherlock, Miss Marple or Cadfael. We'll see.

I so hoped I'd be update some of my never-ending Tolkienfic stories, but the summer heat left me too apathic to deal with such important stuff. Sea-Flower would have been the most likely candidate, but every time I dug out the next, unfinished chapter, I remembered that Fiondil liked that story, and then I became too sad to actually write.

I don't approve of real person stories either.

I'll look forward to your updated stories.

I'm sure Fiondil would wish you to finish "Sea Flower" when you feel able.

I'm sure he would. He was a very generous person, both as a reader and a fellow writer, never let a nobody like me feel that he was a celebrity in fandom and I wasn't. We had very little personal contact, only when I had a language-related question or he wanted to warn me about a mistake, but it was always a delight.

I just don't feel up to writing Tolkienfic at the moment. All my regular readers have long left the fandom, save you and [livejournal.com profile] jenn_calaelen; it has become a lonely place for me.

I only knew Fiondil from the occasional review he left me and from the handful of his stories I read, but he seemed a real gentleman and I was shocked and saddened when he died.

I know Raksha was enjoying "Sea Flower" too. I feel deserted at Teitho as the voters now only want Legolas and Thanduril stories. My Aragorn stories have fallen out of fashion there, but at least my readers elsewhere still like them,I think.

Posting to Ao3 is more trouble than FFn, yes (necause I post on LJ in HTML, I have to do a bit of fiddling) but I like the small but steady number of kudos I get, sometimes even on old stuff... so I do it :)

Currently, I import stuff. There was a time when whatever I tried to post there ended up in a big scramble of words, only importing worked, so I gave up on posting new stuff. I might try again, but I've got so little time to spend on such things that I prefer the simplicity of FF.Net.

It's always wise to have stories up on more than one archive.
