Our last full day. In the morning, we went to the Nibelungen Bridge, which used to be tha border line between the Soviet and US zones. There are memento signs on both ends of the bridge. First I took Mum's photo at the US sign. Then we walked over the bridge - with our umbrella open against the sun as it was unbearably hot - to make a photo at the Russian sign, too.

Well. That approach failed. There was simply no way to cross the street, unless you climbed unnumbered stairs down to the river bank (the Danube, in case you want to know) and then the same amount of stairs up on the other side. At which point we both refused to do so. Therefore I took ad good a photo as I could from the opposite side, and we decided to catch the tram.

Which proved to be an adventure of its own. Because, you see, you couldn't cross the street to reach the tram stop, either. We had to croach down to the passage, cross the streed from beneath, and climb up again at the tram stop. Where we missed the tram and had to wait, oh, 17 or so minutes.

Then we rode that particular train to the terminus, Solar City. It is an experimental area, where all houses operate on solar energy. An interesting sight, to say the least. I can't tell how well it works. Anyway, by then we were fairly dead, so we turned back with the same tram - most of them go in loops here - and had coffee in the bakery we've favoured in these days. And strawberry cheesecake. And ice creme. After which we returned to our hotel for a break.

In the afternoon we went to Thalia's and bought ourselves gratutious little presents because we deserved them. That was it, basically. Now we've (mostly) packed our suitcases and prepare ourselves for the long train ride home. I know, five hours aren't that much, but in this heat, tired as we are, and with a 83-year-old in tow, it will be a challenge. Let's hope everything goes well and we'll find our home the way we left it. *crosses fingers*

It sounds like you had a lovely trip, but I'll keep my fingers crossed for train ride :) And funnilly enough, I always tell myself I deserve something every time I enter a Thalia's *g*

The places are addictive, aren't they?
Nice to hear from you!
