Storm news

Heat wave broke, due to a brutal storm that hit the country in the early afternoon. We've been fortunate - only my satellite dish seems to have died. Now I don't have German TV, and it will take time and money (and not a little from either of it) to get it fixed. But it could have been worse. In other towns the wind tore off the tops of the houses, felled huge trees and threw cars all over.

The wife of my cousin has a heart condition and had to be taken to IC, due to the heat. They found water in her lungs. Poor woman, she's only a year older than I am. I guess I have to consider myself lucky. *sigh*

Health is the most important thing. Satellite dishes can be fixed.

I'm afraid we may have to replace it entirely. As far as I could see from below (it is 8 storeys above our heads), the poor thing is rolled up like a parchment scroll. It's going to be costly and, what is worse, it will take a lot of organizing to get the service guys onto the rĂ³ of and so on. Especially as we won't even be home next week. So the whole thing will drag out infinitely.

Aie! The satellite dish on the rental cottage failed in the winds over winter, but Mr EA managed to fix it himself. I think that was just the wiring and the detector though; the dish itself wasn't damaged.

Sorry to hear about the extreme whether! First a storm then the heat wave, and believe me I know how bad heat waves can be. It is fortunate that your only casualty was the satellite dish - the health of you and your mother is the most important thing, material things can be fixed or replaced.

I hope your cousin's wife is better soon.

So do I. Poor woman, she'll work herself into an early grave.

I'm glad to hear you and Mum are both safe! So sorry about the satellite dish. What a wind storm you must have had to do such damage!

I hope the heat eases so you can at least have some cool nights to recover from the day's heat. It's humid here, and we are due for some hot days ahead ourselves, but I can't complain, since, overall, it's been a cool spring and summer.

Wishing you and Mum well and sending a cool night breeze your way!

Thanks. :) Now that our hoover died on us today, too - and in the middle of the big, bad flat cleaning - we've really deserved those six days off-country. We'll be off to Linz, Austria on Monday. *is excited* I haven't been there for exactly 30 years!
