Only it really isn't. I've been pushed out of actual teaching and into the background since... well, since our current boss took over. Was never good enough, modern enough, versatile enough and all that shit. It's come so far that I only teach one language group in this term.

Now that one of the English teachers became ill any might not recover under the end of the term, people suddenly remembered that I am a language teacher, too, and is was told without preamble that I 'll be teaching 3 more groups, effective immediately on Monday. Never mind that I am actually a German teacher and that taking over the shit from another person in the last two months of the term is the safest way to utter failure.

I'll do my utmost best, of course. The kids deserve nothing less. But I do feel like a wishmop: one brings me in when shit has to be wiped up. Then they hang me up to dry again.

I'm really sorry. That's unfair. Those pupils are lucky to have you, though, not that it's much consolation!

It is a lot of consolation. Some of the new groups are 1st and 2nd term - I love young children. It still isn't fair but again, that is nothing new at our workplace.

I used to love my work so much, but they killed my joy in it piece by piece. The funny thing is, I still do like it, despite everything. I'm just horribly tired and all but burned out.

Yeah, they periodically remember this. Whenever there is work to do anyone else is not willing or too stupid to do.

The kids are lucky to have you, I'm sorry though that you are burned out on the politics of the work place.

Good luck!

It is totally unfair to treat you like that, but hopefully the kits will behave for you.

Thanks. I haven't taught English for 8 years or so. I must admit that I am a bit nervous.

That is totally unfair! But as everyone else has pointed out, the kids are lucky to have you. I wish you the best of luck with it, and hope that it won't tire you out completely. I do know how much work I found teaching four classes a week of stuff that I had done exactly the same last year, let alone things I haven't done (recently).

Yeah, I know. As a young teacher, I was used to have up to 28 classes a week, but that was 30-some years ago. Plus, those were my own classes, where I could build on my previous work, not somebody else's mess that needed to be cleared up.

I'm sure you'll make an excellent teacher of English. I can only wish you the best of luck cleaning up the mess.

Thank you. I'm trying my best. The kids are innocent in this whole mess, after all.

I can see why you'd feel like a dishmop, but the kids are lucky to have you!

Good luck!

Let's hope they (and their parents) will think the same!
