Steampunk!Hoff?
Jan. 26th, 2015 01:41 amI was thinking about how could I have a bit of fun with steampunk (assuming I ever come to understand the complexity of the concept) without starting another never-ending mammooth project. And then realization hit: Hoff! The planet from 1st season SGA, where the people had semi-Victorian clothes and buildings like in Imperial Austria. The planet is ought to show up later on in Torchwoodgate anyway, so why not? It would be a lot more colourful and interesting than canon.
I'm not quite sure what's the absolute requirement for steampunk settings, though, so suggestions are welcome. So far, I've been thinking of airships for personal and cargo transport, steam-powered ground vehicles and mechanical computers operated by way of punch cards, like the Difference Engine.
Art, architecture, clothing and weaponry will require ungodly amounts of research, too, I'm afraid. No idea where to take the time, but the whole thing is very intriguing.
