I did a bit of looking on my FF.Net statistic page and discovered that 3 of my stories (so far) have ended up listed in so-called badfic comms.

Now, I'm not particularly surprised by "Special Unit 3", as it contains Gwen-bashing, or "AnnĂºminas", which has pregnant!Boromir. Some people are just plain intolerant and haven't discovered yet the fantastic invention of the Back button or developed the great skill of reading the warnings and not reading a story that might offend them.

But why poor "Elf-Root" had to end up on such a list, just because I made Bifur female is really beyond me. For some people there is simply no hope, I guess.

I was recently informed that everything I write is cheesy. *shrug* It probably is, but I write what I want to write and will continue to write what I want to write, cheesy or no -- much, I imagine, as you will continue to write what you want to write.

The way I see it, much as the comment might have been meant negatively, the reviewer who informed me that everything I write is cheesy still spent the time reading everything I've written, instead of using the back arrow, closing the window, or simply opting not to click on any more of my stories.

So, perhaps the old saying that any publicity is good publicity is an apt one for you here. The readers who included your stories in those comms still took time to read them and highlight them, which may gain you readers who check them out to see why they've been included in those comms. Those readers may enjoy them and decide to read more of your work, so... Glass half full. ;)

I'm not really sure they've actually read anything. After all, "AnnĂºminas" still holds the record of a story getting the fastest rejection from HASA. It was rejected almost before I've finished filling out the rec form (self-recs were allowed at that time). Now, I know I'm slow but I still can't believe someone could have read - and sensibly evaluated - a multichapter story that quickly. No, they just saw the summary and rejected because there was Mpreg. And that from an archive that accepted J.Marie, who had declared in her author's notes that the films were much better than those boring books with all their poems and descriptions and stuff. So much about "quality" Tolkien fanfic. Yes, it was Ages ago but it still irks me.

However, what I don't understand is these badfic lists. Why on earth would anyone waste their time to hunt down stories they really don't like, just to list them up and feel superior? I save my time for hunting down and reading stories that I do like. And if I find one that's lacking, I get off with Warp speed. Some people really have too much time on their hands.

I think you already read Special Unit 3 over at [livejournal.com profile] otherworlds_lib. The other two are Tolkienfics, if you're interested in that sort of thing.

People are idiots - there seems to be a lot of people enjoying making others feel bad. I don't understand why, but hopefully they will leave you alone now.
