I tried to make a very festive pineapple cake today. Well, the cake itself remained as flat as the Great Plains of America. The fact that I forgot to add baking powder in time and then made a pathetic effort to stir some into the dough when it was already in the baking tin might have to do with the result. But I still managed to cut it diagonally twice (although it ended up in more pieces than it was supposed to) and added the pineapple jelly and bourbon vanilla filling, respectively.
Then I fought a bitter fight with the marzipan. I managed to cover the cake with it... mostly. When I tried to pull it over the naked pieces, it tore. I flicked it together as well as I could. Then I had to make ungodly amounts of decoration of green and red coloured marzipan to cover the faulty pieces. Coloured marzipan sticks to one's fingers like crazy, in case you haven't known it. Anyway, the result is a small cake that looks like the Leaning Tower of Pisa with too much holly leaves and red berries. It's rather bizarre, but the fillings are delicious, and Mum likes it, so I can live with it. I just wanted to make a beautiful cake once in my life. Well, it was not meant to be, apparently.
In other news, the concert went well yesterday, I finally managed to buy the Christmas tree and to dust the bookshelves, we went to the Christmas market today, and tomorrow I'll be able to start putting Mum's present together, so thing are good.

Date: 2014-12-23 07:11 pm (UTC)It is good to hear that the Consert went well. It is such a joy to sing with a choir, not to mention how much energy it gives.
By the way, I received your Christmas Card today and it is very beautiful. I love it a lot. *sends hugs to you and Mom*
