I haz new shinies!!!

My new shiny has arrived! It is the fourth volume of The Hobbit Chronicles, titled Cloak and Dagger and it is gorgeous. It shows how the art department of the Hobbit films designed the costumes and props, chose the materials and dressed the sets. The pictures are simply stunning.

OTOH, it's sad that so much talent, attention to detail and hard work was wasted on bad fanfiction. If the scripts had been a hundredth of what the artwork is, the resulting film would be epic and Tolkien would weep tears of joy in Heaven, instead of rolling in his grave.

Oh, and I also got my new DVD, "Delta and the Bannermen" with the Seventh Doctor! Alas, the First Doctor episodes I wanted to order are no longer available. Too bad, I'd like to own "The Chase", it has very cool aliens. I watched parts of it online, but it kills my eyes.

Oh, believe me, I have! Those art books are so incredibly beautiful - I wish all this effort and creativity would have resulted in a better film, but the godawful plot isn't the fault of the art department.

Stay away from the side book "Smaug - Unleashing the Dragon", though. Unlike the 4 main volumes, it's poorly executed.

True, the plot is made by the director and the art department can´t be blamed for it.

I can´t say that I am fond of Dragons in the first place.

Actually, those are First and Second Doctor episodes, mostly. Not whole seasons, just a few key ones I'm interested in because of the respective companions that show up in my stories; or because the monsters are so endearing. :)

The folks at "Bestsellers" say that the DVDs are all sold out, unfortunately. But I'll send you the details as soon as I'm back from Austria (have no idea where I put my list, and at the moment we're wildly packing), in the hope that they show up as used goods somewhere.
